A wander around the remains of Glan Ely High School
A short video showing the shell of one of the blocks of Glan Ely High School in Ely, Cardiff - a few months before everything was torn down. The 3 story block was avoided, sadly, due to workers nearby. Some photos of the block were taken on another, quieter day, so at least some kind of historical archive exists.

A Stroll Through Tiger Bay (2023 S-Video Restoration Edition)
zhlédnutí 374Před rokem
NEW S-Video Captured and Restored Edition Using a new capture card, decent S-VHS player and new PC, I've been able to re-digitise and partially restore Neil Sinclair's amazing 'A Stroll Through Tiger Bay' guided tour. This is a marked improvement upon the old, blurry and split up version posted back in 2013. Sadly, Mr Sinclair passed away in 2019 - www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/cardiff-...

A short video showcasing the journey and views up and down The Great Orme in Llandudno, a beautifully well looked after seaside town in North Wales, UK. The Great Orme Tramway is Britain’s only funicular, or cable-hauled, tramway that travels on public roads. Delighting visitors since it opened in 1902. The Tramway climbs a mile (1500m) through the Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve to ...

Shot using a Samsung S9 and Osmo 3 Gimbal. I had intended to get some shots with a DSLR, but forgot to put an SD card in it....and by the time I went home to get it, the storm was almost over. Sigh... Will carry a spare from now on!! At least I managed to get a few good lightning bolts on the mobile. Filmed at Bute East Dock in Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, Wales, UK
A different type of lockdown...

Back in March 2018, South Wales (and a lot of the UK) was hit by a rare blizzard which was at the tail end of "The Beast from the East". (Wiki: bit.ly/2SnQ2KG) Most of the country was literally frozen solid for at least 2-3 days after the blizzard, which was made up of very dry, powdery snow. Pubs and hotels closed, the streets were empty, and many people were sent home from work and school; so...
Walk through Saundersfoot mine tunnel.

A short video showing in real time, the walk through the old disused narrow gauge railway tunnel, from Saundersfoot beach and car park. The weather was terrible; so it wasn't practical to film the whole walk to Wisemans Bridge (and Amroth beyond...) Note how the rain is torrential and in 3 minutes it has eased right off! This is the first video where I've managed to add some rudimentary editing...

I've shot a few time-lapses in Tenby over the years, and now uploading the best of them. Moments later, it's gone again, and the impending storm clouds from the west, very quickly start to build up for the day...

The main block you were exploring was where the staff rooms and offices for the heads of year were located. Down the brick lined stairs were the lecture theatre and a science/Chemistry lab. Also on the ground floor of that block was a home economics classroom facing towards Drope Road and the then Cavalier pub. The cleared area with the one blue reclaimation skip, was mainly an arts and craft area, metal working shop and even a small motor mechanics area.

I went to live at the Pier Head (Bute Town) when I was 9 years old, having lived in the Rhobdda ValIey since birth. I was married at St Stephens church in 1963. Also in the chior when Rev Edmunds was in charge. Attended St Marys School Dumballs Road. George Street where I lived had two pubs, The Castle and The Ship and Pilot. Two Spanish grocer shops, one Arabian shop, a greek shipping chandlers, A wholesale butcher. A wet fish shop only open on Fridays. A large library . A bettin shop, when made legal!!! A brothel, not ever made legal. On the corner of George Street, St. James Street an old fashioned tobacconist, which included a barbers . All the stockbrokers from the Exchange went there for barbering. What a place to live!!! Every nationality all mixed in together. I could go on and on about The Pier Head, Butetown, Tiger Bay, reminisces would fill a book.

Superb upload, thank you. Neil Sinclair really knew his stuff on the area, and his delivery made it all interesting and entertaining. There is another interesting video on here where Mr Sinclair gives a lecture on the area where he cautions us about social repercussions of the Bay redevelopment, sadly I think this area has got worse since the time of his tours and needs a rethink before more social disparity occurs and buildings lost.

When he says the Docks were horrible decaying and derelict in the late 60s he`s not wrong but it doesn't show the whole picture because the community was strong and though the house`s needed renovating we knew everyone and we had each others backs, you really could leave your doors unlocked....to say its better there now ignores a hell of a lot of what was lost both in the Docks and Butetown...
