A friend of mine just found one of these covers at a thrift store. Thank you for the in-depth video about it.

I am a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit. In 1976, I took an elective Mathematics course at WSU. Although I was a history major, all liberal arts students were required to take a few math-science oriented electives and this was a precalculus course. Hideaki Nakano was the Graduate Assistant who taught the course. He and I became friendly and I spent time with him (lunches) in 1975.I fell out of touch with him in late 1975 and we never talked again . At the time Nakano was about 30 years old and not had yet obtained his PHD. His father, who had died in 1974, was a celebrated Math Professor .He taught at WSU and had published significant books and articles .His name was Hidegoro Nakano. Hideaki lived with his mother in Detroit near the Wayne Campus. Hideaki had a sister - who seems to be referenced in the video- who taught Mathematics at a non Michigan University. Hideaki was a memorable character. He seemed to be living in the shadow of his father . I don't know how far Hideaki went as a Mathematics scholar. This was basically the pre computer and pre internet era. So I don`t know if he ever acquired knowledge or skills in computer work. It`s likely Hideaki lived at the Merrick (in Detroit near the WSU campus) apartment after the death of his mother up until Hideaki`s own death. Many people with connections to WSU live around Merrick Street. I just don`t know how he earned a living between 1975 and 2019. He was a bright guy, but I doubt if his mental abilities translated into much in the way of earning power. He and his family were sober and frugal -so I`m sure he got by financially. Socially, Hideaki Nakano was pathetic. The outbursts of temper referred to in the video were witnessed by me occasionally. You never knew what would set him off. He was lonely and unattractive to women. I bet he never married, never had children and never even had a girlfriend. He occasionally referred to what he called his "superstar" stamp collection. But keep in mind that this was in 1976 -before he ever was acclaimed in the stamps world. At the time the key elements of Hideaki Nakano were : (1.) he was proud of being Japanese (2.) his father was a big shot Math scholar whom Hideaki was unsuccessfully trying to emulate (3.) he was lonely and irascible. I hope these recollections are interesting to some people. RIP Hideaki Nakano.

I'm not a stamp collector, but rather collect ephemera. I recently purchased a lot of ephemera which included a Hideaki Nakano cachet for Roberto Clemente, first day of issue 1984. I've seen First day of Issue USPS released envelopes but nothing like this and so a Google search to learn more brought me here. Thank you for the video.

Shame about the ones they painted over -- that's erasing history. The whole point is to be minorly offensive so future generations learn from the pasts' mistakes.
