A morning decoying geese with Tom Sykes
Tom Sykes and his brother Jack and spend a day ambushing some wily geese
Most of our goose shooting is done by flighting and intercepting them as they move between the mud and their desired inland feeding ground. However, the spot we chose gave us a chance to dust off the decoys and see if we could convince them to settle among us. As it was getting towards the end of the season, we left our goose rags at home and took a handful of old shells and a few full-bodied decoys to be more realistic for the wise birds.
We arrived in plenty of time, allowing us to leisurely set the decoy pattern and get into position before the first geese arrived. Geese weren’t moving the previous day until close to sunrise, so we knew there wasn’t a mad panic.
The decoy pattern was very simple. We spread the decoys around the gutter in small groups. We hoped this would take the birds’ attention away from our position. Although we were after pinks, Canadas and greylags were also in the area, so Jack brought a few Canada shell decoys to add a little bulk to the pattern while giving us a chance at pulling them in.
We were all set up and ready before the sun began to appear on the horizon, with our coffee cooling in the breeze. We sat fairly relaxed until we both stopped, mid-sentence, after hearing what we thought was a single goose. We sprung into action and begun to call together before we saw the faint outline of a pink in the murky sky as it approached.

Wildfowling: Early season success
zhlédnutí 27KPřed 7 lety
Having shot my local marshes for numerous years, I have a good understanding of where the best chances lie, depending on the time of year and weather conditions. I decided to put this theory to the test and ventured out with my young dog, Goose, on a marsh that normally produces good early season tide flighting. I have been there in all kinds of conditions but it does seem to do well when all t...
Pest Control, Crows and Lesser Black Back Gulls
zhlédnutí 49KPřed 8 lety
Lesser Black Back Gulls and the law You must follow the letter of the law when shooting. Shooting gulls can be a confusing subject for a lot of shooters because people aren’t aware of the law. The gulls shot on this particular day were lesser black-backed. These gulls can still be shot under the general licence if there is a valid reason to shoot them. I was covered under the general licence be...
Crow shooting on cover crops with a ShotKam
zhlédnutí 76KPřed 8 lety
Upon arrival, it was clear that I had made a good decision because there were plenty of corvids in the area. However, they were mainly concentrating on the freshly cut grass fields. They had been feeding on the crop, so I had a good chance of pulling the birds in. I decided that the only option to set up was in the middle of the broken-up hedge with a few trees. I picked a spot with the breeze ...

After the rush of the season, it’s time for a slightly less frantic pace for Tom Sykes as he takes to his hide to deal with the crows and pigeons The problem with decoying crows at the end of the season around these parts is finding somewhere to go. The crows haven’t been pressured into feeding anywhere in particularly due to the mild wet winter. Having said that, I’ve had to sit back in frustr...
Wildfowling decoys: How to make Wigeon tufts
zhlédnutí 4,5KPřed 8 lety
Over the years I have made numerous wildfowling decoys, but one of my favourite creations are my homemade wigeon tufts. These are a simple invention that are most suited for half-light or moon flights. In low light conditions the most visible part on a wigeon is the white patch on the rear of the bird and the white flash on the wings, which other birds seem to be able to spot from a great dista...

Tom Sykes takes his young Labrador, Goose, out on a wildfowling flight, and he doesn’t disappoint The first wildfowling flight of gosse It didn’t take long until September rolled round and Goose had a chance to try a job that he was named for, wildfowling. His first flight was in early September as I decided to start him on a morning tide flight on ducks. We set off into the darkness with plent...

How would you get wild rabbits living in your area?.?
Include a straw in the kit.
What gun carrier is that you use at the start?
this will be great for my Halloween yard decorations!
❤
What cheekpiece are you using? I've been looking for one but can't seem to find a decent one.
That stupid designed stock might be ok for .243 or .270 but for cartridges with heavy recoil, it sucks. A straight comb, very little drop design is best.
I've learnt a lot watching that what a great video
I had the great pleasure of going mole catching with the Troughton brothers, they gave us some of the traps your still making, I'm gonna have a go at making some if i can come across some pipe , Thanks for video, brought back some good memories 👍
Now let's see you do an underlever springer!
Lovely dogs
Can tell this is old using plastic straws
Excellent. That was great fun. I’ve never smoked a rabbit, but I;m going to give it a try now. Thank you.
Die schlimmste "Pest" sind wir doch selber.
Thanks for info
Myxomatosis was a disease created by humans to wipe out rabbits in Australia. It is testament to nature that they have built up some amount of resistance.
those three bunnies:weeeeeeee!!!!!!!❤❤❤
So why are you shooting crows ? Do they really eat that much seed ? You spent more on ammo than lost seeds !?!
For the first cold blind, I want big momentum so I put out a series of bumpers spaced about 30 yards apart at the end of a flat featureless field to ensure success at the end of the blind. Throwing a mark in the field, then running the blind also helps build momentum. From the first cold blind, I want the retriever to think "run to the end of the field": czcams.com/video/WpR7pmenDa8/video.htmlsi=2pividLU6xfq0FRe From the dog's perspective there is a huge difference lining to know locations or a visible marker compared to a cold blind lining to a new unknown destination:.

Awesome video! I hunted crow for the first time today. Only called in 20 birds in three sets. We shot but didn't connect. We didn't have decoys either.
Seagulls are a menace. In my city there used to be lots of bird song, now there is hardly any as the type of gull you can't shoot has free reign to pork its way through the small bird population.
great video
Page 23 They are able to hop about on the day of their birth.
lin-tang + pu-kang = running here and there; aimlessly as if one is being chased after or away from danger
Great dog, good rabbiters, not trying to cover too much ground at a time and sensible use of added music, pleasantly unobtrusive. Col, NZ.
Truly amazing. Camera footage excellent as well
Thanks ❤
Closing shot of the ferret basher is a classic.Maybe the SSF should read Bill Owen's book.Compo's Guide to Ferreting and Firkeling..😈
After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel czcams.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!
Your videos are the worst!!!😡😡😡 I watched 3/4 of the video before I saw you shoot a rabbit 🐇!!! I don't want to listen about you or you're gun!!! I want to see rabbits croaking!!!😡😡😡 Boring, Very boring!!!
I note the age of this vid', its good shooting, but try the latest FAC .25 FX Maverick, mine has been tuned to 65ft lb using 35grn Zan slugs at 1050fps, you will find its a huge upgrade on your 24ft lb & more than capable of knocking rabbits over at 75 yards........As THE man says " Dont be mean, kill them clean". Good hunting.
From France; very clear, pedagogical and skilled talk. I add it on my list of helpful shooting videos...and quite understandable english for me 😀. thanks a lot.

Best explanation ever i have seen so for. subscribed
I thought i was going to see a rabbit shooting an air rifle... they don't have hands so I was sure they can't reach the trigger, much less point the gun..so I was curious oh well
Nothing much can beat it !🤙
About stock weld, I remember my instructor saying that God knows man are destined to hold a rifle and shaped our cheeks that way.
cant hear
Nicely produced video, hopefully the bunnies end up in a pot somewhere. I guess, FAC power means heart shots are always on, but for 12ft/lb it's head shots only, or can Rabbets be taken with heart shots @ sub 12ft/lb?

Great video!
Brilliant Enjoyed that
Iv been doing this for years, its like many things easy when you no how! The hardest part if any is finding the rite run and angle!
