    Thank you for the video! I have a question regarding the ruleset link you created. According to Microsoft's documentation: "If you use the ruleset link option and there is a forwarding rule with the inbound endpoint as destination, do not link the forwarding ruleset to the Hub VNet. Linking this type of ruleset to the same VNet where the inbound endpoint is provisioned can result in a DNS resolution loop." Why did you direct your link to the Hub VNet instead of creating the link to the Spoke VNet, which might have been simpler?

    • @PetterTech
      @PetterTech Před měsícem

      Using a public ip prefix with the NAT gateway is more for scaling up the number of outbound connections that can exist. The NAT gateway really isn't made for doing one to one NAT stuff, for that you would need a more advanced service like Azure Firewall or a load balancer.

    Thanks for this video. It's been very helpful, but could you add a short section @23:50 or follow-up video where you install PowerShell with all resources contained in a storage account within the same resource group? My use case requires assets be within my own subscription, but I can't find any examples of this on-line.

    • @PetterTech
      @PetterTech Před 2 měsíci

      Interesting scenario, is it enough to have all resources in the same subscription or is there also a requirement to be accessing things through private networks? Because it could be as simple as deploying a storage account and placing the scripts there with public access enabled. But if it should also be accessed through private networks then you would need a private endpoint for the storage account that is accessible from the vnet used to build the image

      Depends a bit on the scale I guess. If you have 1 legacy app that is all the reason you have to keep AD, then you could consider AADDS. If you have 10's or 100's of apps and other bits as well, then maybe just keep AD :)

    • @PetterTech
      @PetterTech Před 2 měsíci

      You're touching in on a fairly annoying limitation in Entra Domain Services here, you cannot move it to a new subscription. GPOs can be migrated over to the domain, but you'll need to do a backup before deleting your Entra Domain Services. It's a fairly lengthy process, take a look here: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/desktop/gpmc/copying-and-importing-gpos-across-domains Users and computers would be best to not migrate over to be honest

      If you're talking about a single vm where multiple users will log on and you want them all to have access to a local drive, then no. Thank you for your video. There's something I don't understand: previously it was simple. You create your VM, install what you needed, run sysprep, and then you could capture and use the image. But with this new process, when am I supposed to install what I need in my image to create my master? (Sorry, I'm a beginner with AVD.) If I understand correctly, I create a custom template with this new feature, and then I have to create a VM, customize it with all the software I need, run sysprep, and capture it again? So nothing new in fact ? Maybe I'm missing something in the process to manage the golden image 😅

    • @PetterTech
      @PetterTech Před 2 měsíci

      You can still go with the old style of creating images, in that case you wouldn't need custom image templates though :) The whole point of custom image templates is to have all customization done by code, so instead of logging on the vm to install software and customize it you would add some scripts to do the same thing 👍

    I used to have a test and a production environment which are running on the same Image. The test environment gets the software updates and if everything is successful I sysprep the test session host, "capture" it manually in the portal and create an image out of the capture to the image gallery. Then first redeploy from the image in stage and if everything works as expected use the same session hosts image from the image gallery to redeploy in production. Did I understand it right, that I can now use the stage session host including all the software and just create an image directly out of it without sysprepping it and immediately deploy new session hosts from it or is it just for the base installation without anything software related added afterwards? Is it also possible to store images in one "central" tenant and access it from another one? Sorry if you already covererd it somewhere but didn't find something to it.

    • @PetterTech
      @PetterTech Před 3 měsíci

      If I understand your scenario correctly then you could use the image you captured from the test session host as a basis for your next images when creating them by using the Custom Image Templates. So if you could apply the updates through code you could potentially save some time in this process, since it would save you the steps of deploying a new vm, applying updates and then sysprep'ing and capturing it as a new image. Regarding the option to store images in one central tenant, I do not now of a native way to this unfortunately.

      You have a couple of different options here, if you’re referring to using custom images I have two other videos that might help: Custom Image Templates: czcams.com/video/o3A9J7CbCyA/video.html Custom Images In Azure Virtual Desktop | How to create and deploy: czcams.com/video/oIJ9BbjtPI0/video.html

    looks great and thanks for this video. can we update the existing session hosts without adding the new session hosts?

    • @PetterTech
      @PetterTech Před 4 měsíci

      Unfortunately no, the images you create is not something you can use outside of deploying new hosts

    So is Azure Arc something that will add value long term or just another junk cloud service from MS that will be deprecated in 2 years, then you need to migrate to some other cloud service...?????

    • @PetterTech
      @PetterTech Před 4 měsíci

      I think that as long as there is a need for hybrid or multi-cloud a service like Arc will have its place. And that is the foreseeable future. While I can’t make any promises on behalf of Microsoft, I can say that with the amount of investment they are putting in Arc and the adoption they are seeing it’s highly unlikely that Arc is going away in the next years

      @@PetterTech That is the problem with MS they just rollout out so many half baked junk cloud services.....they you use them....then magically you need to migrate what a bunch of scum bags....

      I think that's pretty much the nature of the cloud. Things change so rapidly. But as far as the deprecation of Azure services goes, even though they do get deprecated from time to time you do usually get close to a 3-year heads up before support ends for a service. They can get better at communicating those notifications, but things are improving

      @@PetterTech All this change....does it really add value.....or just head ache for the consumer of some junk cloud service...and just added cost.....I would rather they just offer a more mature product...than some junk POS WIP.....as a product....its shameful sometimes....as providers have little to NO consideration for customers...shameful.....

    Jesus, this is so much more straightforward than trying to follow the incoherent trail of documentation from Microsoft. Thank you for saving me numerous hours and a few blood pressure spikes.

      I aim to please ;) Also, make sure to consider Custom Image Templates if you're making custom images for AVD. I posted a video on it last week: czcams.com/video/o3A9J7CbCyA/video.html

      @@PetterTech Well that is twice now you have saved me a ton of time. It's nice for one of our use cases to know how to do this style of image capture, but it is also VERY nice to know the other way in the video you linked. Thanks again!

    Akkuratt videoen jeg trengte! Har fagprøve snart og tenker å ha om AVD, så kom jeg over kanalen din og det passet jo bare helt perfekt! Så videoen du la ut for 1 år siden om AVD og det hjalp meg veldig med å forstå og motiverte meg også til å lære mer. Setter stor pris på kanalen din :) Takk!

    Can we loop through ip addresses

    • @PetterTech
      @PetterTech Před 4 měsíci

      Certainly! Depends on how the ip adresses you want to loop through are stored, but if you wanted to do a simple ping sweep you could do something like this: 10.13.37.1..255 | foreach {ping 10.13.37.$_ -c 2}

    What do you think about this service? Is it better than manually creating images? Better than Azure Image Builder? Or do you prefer the more hands-on approach to imaging?
