Is he technically good? Absolutely. Obviously. He also steps ALL OVER the song. I prefer guitar players who play the song and don’t use the song to show off. I understand that this band is a stepping stone for guitar players and it worked well for him but guitar wanking really triggers me.

Sure... He's fast... Has great tone... Chops... An ear.... But other than that what does he have going on? I used to play The Stage a few doors down on Friday nights so I'd make sure to get downtown early to catch JD... Just like I did for Redd Volkaert and Johnny Hiland before him. He's a good guy by all accounts also Ed King Approved! 🤘.
