Yorkshire walks - Catrigg force a hidden gem
Today we headed to the Yorkshire dales for a walk from Stainforth to Langcliffe taking in some of the fantastic scenery.
We set off from the car park at stainforth, crossing some lovely stepping stones over stainforth beck and onto goat scar lane. After a short walk taking in the sights of the surrounding fells of Pen Y Ghent, Smearsett scar and Ingleborough, we arrive at Catrigg force a stunning waterfall set in its own wooded gorge.
After taking in the stunning waterfall we head up over upper winskill through the valley and down into Langcliffe where we head over the settle to carlisle railway and then over the river ribble via a footbridge by the weir.
After a nice lunch break by the river we head up the banks of the ribble back towards stainforth.
At the fork in the path we head right down to the banks of the river to reach Stainforth Force, a stunning waterfall which in the months of October and November you can see salmon jumping upstream.
After a dip of our feet we head back to the car via the 17th centurt packhorse bridge.
A lovely walk highly recommended.

Walking the wainwrights : Raven Crag
zhlédnutí 98Před 28 dny
Raven Crag is a fell in the English lake district. The dramatic rock face towers over the north end of Thirlmere reservoir and provides excellent views from the summit. The walk is one of the fastest ascents to the 461m summit taking less than an hour. We had a child free night so headed off to the lake district to take on a wainwright fell and stay at a popular campsite, stonethwaite campsite....
alternator upgrade on the discovery

After looking at the old alternator and finding it difficult to find parts I decided to replace with a new 120 amp one. I will keep the original and try repair as a spare. The Northern Explorer has hit 2000 subs! I cant believe we hit 2k subs, thank you! I have to add, in the video it comes across like I don’t like products from ratel-x. This is not true, ratel-x products are brilliant! I meant that I didn’t want to promote products I haven’t tried etc. I have promoted ratel-x products in previous videos and for very good reason. Lovely place to spend some time. The salmon would be brilliant to see
@@nealeford1964 yeah I think we will return for the salmon, maybe include a camping trip
👍
nice way to stay fit and healthy. Cheers for taking us along.
@@Reaper4367 thanks! It’s a bit of extra training for the Yorkshire 3 peaks
great job there! loving those backlight grills, where did you get them?
Thanks! The rear Grills were already on the car when I bought it. I’m not sure where you might buy them
😮is it yours?!?
@@mclafton not mine, it’s my dads. Would you like to see more?
@@TheNorthernExplorer who wouldn’t like to see more classic jag?! 😂
@@mclafton I’ll see what I can do then
Good to see! i cant do paypal, long story. I'll see if i can 'donate' through Patreon. If i am able, would that be acceptable?
If you send me an email I’ll sort something out for you 👍
As random as this sounds, check the bolt holding the front wing to the bumper and check the bracket concerned as well.
@@sflynn3867 ahh yeah I know what you mean! I’ll have a look at that, cheers
Nice one 👍 I’ve just ordered my sticker, And I’ll put it on the back of my Disco.
@@StuM0OVG thanks very much! I’ll get it posted out tomorrow for you 👍
Great efforts in the repairs. Hope the 'sqeeley's' are gone for good. I have to replace the same fuel 'return lines'? myself on my Green Beasty. Top stuff. Cheers for sharing.
@@Reaper4367 thank you, I think I have solved the squeal. The fuel lines are really easy to replace, there are also kits online to replace the lot quite cheap
Good work 👍 great video!
Thank you 😁
Blimey! I wish Fusion Leak off pipes were as easy! Hope the problem stays away.
Haha yeah it is pretty easy. I think I know what the noise is now 😉
Put them over the wheel centre caps..
@@user-nm5dc1pb6n haha I don’t have centre caps
What an amazing place to have access to
@@nealeford1964 it is a stunning location, would recommend for the short walk to the top 👍
sitting here watching You run, and I'm outta breathe! lmao That looks like a beautiful part of the country. Cheers for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks
Need the band, size is about right. Im 50/50 on the YT logo.
Agreed and I’m not having the logo 😀
Size: yes to 75, no to any bigger. Coloured ring: yes but only thin and same colour as text. CZcams logo: not for me, I have a few CZcams stickers and none have the logo- without it people will ask and strike up a conversation, leading to potential new viewers Feedback as requested!
@@mclafton perfect! I’ve ordered just those ones 😉
Was going to say just that. 👍
They are big enough
Wrynose pass
Great choice 👍
i did a replace myself last year too, i was lucky the local LR garage had just one in stock, dont know the amps, i was in a hurry to get back on the road, the bolts are bit hard to reach but i got it fixed in 2 hours with a bad collection of tools i have🧐
Yeah it’s not a bad job really, I went with a replacement for time too but I would like to rebuild the old one for a spare
It's getting tougher to find parts for the Disco 2 so must be worse for the Disco 1! Nice easy engine to work on too.
To be fair I’m not having trouble with parts as the 300tdi was used on the defender. It’s when you want to fix parts I’m finding it had to get those bits. (If that makes sense?)
@@TheNorthernExplorer Yes, more or less. Some parts for the D2 are obsolete now. Stuff like auto gearbox rear seals, suspension hockey stick bushes - important stuff!
Great vid! Mine is down for an xyz switch. Fix the ac and then it drips and kills my neutral saftey 😂😂 these things want to die perpetually
There’s always something isn’t there!
Best upgrade I ever did, 120A alternator off a Range Rover p38- swap the pulleys and off you go. Great video 👍
Ahh I didn’t know that would fit, cheers
Good upgrade. Cheers for sharing.
Thank you
The Magnetti Morelli is *garbage* imo! The rectifier diodes are garbage. I am converting over to dual alts with external regulator and external rectifier
Sounds like you know your stuff! Any idea where I’d get spares?
Brilliant, and thank you - give me ideas for when i get my disco later this year!!
Thanks Jim! Good luck 👍
That was a reasonably easy removal. Let's hope the repair is equally easy!
Yeah it’s not a bad job really, hopefully it’s an easy fix
The fun never ends! Hopefully its an easy fix this time. That grill looks well smart!
The joys of Land Rover ownership! I might make a quick vid on the grill, it seems to have a bit of attention
Be a GREAT time to replace the Regulator/brushes module inside! And keep the old one in the truck for a spare! 90% of alternator failures are these modules BTW, and they come with new brushes on them.. There's total rebuild kits on eBay for 50usd but idk what you can get local to you. Mind you, there are 2 different alternators!! VERY similar.. 100 and 120 amps, different parts in them!
That’s the plan kris, great minds 😉
When did you change the grille? Cheers
Haha I was waiting for someone to notice! I will do a quick run through in my next video 👍
@@TheNorthernExplorer I've been thinking of doing something similar to mine, but trying to use the old school land rover aluminum badge (used in series)!
@@blaketrooper ooh I like that idea! My badge is all faded and crappy. This grille was homemade. Maybe I could make a video on that?
@@TheNorthernExplorerI’d like to see this too - looks like a good job. Saudi grill very hard to find
I had it with the water pump, I replaced the old one and the new pump was a little bigger ( diameter) so it scratched inside
Oh no, hope it didn’t damage too much
hopefully it will be as quick a fix as it was finding the problem.
Yeah fingers crossed 🤞
It's also be a good idea while the belt is off, to spin any tensioner or jockey pulleys by hand and listen for noise or feel for roughness.
That’s a great idea, thanks for the tip
nice review of your video stuff. interresting. :)
Thank you
Very cool, do a video with how you setup these cameras please!
Cheers! That’s a good point I’ll look into doing that
Very illuminating, ta very much!
Thank you 😀
Excited to see whats coming!
Man this is so awesome! Yes i know its an amazing feeling! Def glad I found ya again!
Thanks mate!
@@TheNorthernExplorer Yeah man love all the angles ya put in this as well
As another Discovery 300 3-door owner, I'm absolutely here for the Land Rover content. Whether it's repairs and maintenance, upgrades, or adventures. Or even products and tools that you've been using when working on the Disco, or companies that you've dealt with. All the Disco related content is great - and your channel makes a change, as so many of the other Land Rover youtubers either have series/Defenders (which are fine) or are in the US so have V8 Discos (again, that's fine). There's relatively few out there with Disco 300's (which are, of course, better). Anyway, congrats on the first 2k subs, I'm sure the next 2k will come up more quickly ;)
Thank you! I never really thought about it like that, I suppose there aren’t many d1 channels out there. Thanks for being part of the channel 👍
