Dobinsons IMS Bronco Shocks Unboxed

Another rival for the Bilstein 6112s and Eibach Pro Truck Sports has entered the ring, @DobinsonsSuspension IMS Shocks, and boy are they a heck of a contender. With springs for every engine and door count, as well as options for constant load to boot, they offer a lot of customization to allow you to build a system that is dialed in for exactly how your Bronco is built, plus with their easier g...

Will the King or Fox coil coilovers fit a 2024 f150 powerboast with ccd suspension?
Satisfying
Eibach cost a lot more than Bilstein too!😮
Did you delete the swaybar ,front and rear?
Not our truck sorry
Still looked surprisingly controlled despite having the wrong suspension setup.
I punish mine hard, and they take it on both my third gen tacom. Sucks to see this
Love doing this stuff with my stock 2000 model f150 I purchased for $3500.
LOL seriously 😂
Amen!
And you. Blew the hocks out of it. Nice work! Everyone loves a leaky damper
@kregadeth5562 can you clarify who you are taking to and what about? I saw no evidence of broken shock and my trucks shocks are fine.
I have a 2021 and am looking to level the front to match the rear with 5100 shocks. Any idea what setting on the shock should be?
How much for this service?
This specifically was about 825 because it needed new rod ends from a poor install. Normally about 750.
These made my 35s run smoother at higher highway speeds
My fox 🦊 racing 2.5 coil over costed me around 5600 6 K and 1 k to get them installed I’ve been hunting BUT not off-roading but atleast 10.000 KLMs worth of hunting roads which is technically off-roading but not severe cruise speeds and slow crawling but yes plus 70.000 KLMs So 80.000 KLMs and they’re beautiful shocks still going strong such a comfy ride puts the kids to sleep how smooth they are on road trips
How to buy this?
We have the pull test result for the 47-309975. The pull test was a shock from finished goods. This test was to review weld strength at either end of the post. The shock yielded 92kN to a specification of 60kN. Note that the eye-ring to post weld had the condition that was reported via the Shock Surplus youtube video. This result indicates significant tensile load and does not indicate a service performance issue.
Check the mounts and let ys know
I just installed this today 😮😮😮
Unfortunately the people who assemble these shocks (not just Bilstein) get paid minimum wage.
Tons of turnover at the manufacturers lately
I just ordered a set of these from you 😨😩😩😱😖😖
We're heavily inspecting the latest batch
@@ShockSurplus thanks I have full confidence in Shock Surplus so I’m not worried. I got my confirmation yesterday that it shipped 🙌 Thanks again and take care 👍
This is really bad, thanks for looking out for the consumers.
See this is why I love shock Surplus! Letting ur costumers know what's up!
thanks for the support!
Bilstein knows of this issue, and is resolving it. These failed ones havent shipped to our customers.
will the 4600 strut be best for lowered trucks. i have 3 inch drop in the front and 4.5 in the rear.
which vehicle? 4600 and 5100 vehicles are meant for factory height or minor lifted vehicles, not vehicles with 3" of drop. Belltech would be a better option. But give us a shout support@shocksurplus.com and we can dive into more details.
2014 silverado 1500 5.3L z71. Ink the I have a 3 inch drop and the rear 4.5. I removed lift block and overload springs. I have installed 3.0 rear shackles I couldn't
Still waiting for the biggest video of this year!
We're behind! Thanks for your patience. Long story short, they're worth the price tag.
@ShockSurplus nah thank u! It's honestly the most anticipated video of the year. So big hats off to yall. I'd rather u take ur time and do an excellent job, than rush it. Tbh there isn't a lot of content on these shocks. b-roll of the shocks working is always 👌!
I had 3 stets of 5100's. On a 2008 (Access Cab TRD Sport) and 2013 Tacoma (4 Door, 6 foot Bed, TRD Sport). And on a 17 Silverado (LT 5.3). Absolutely loved them. Turned my truck into a "sports truck". Not stiff. Just an awesome shock that performs so well.
thanks for the feedback!
Per this video, if I wanted a shock for f150 that DOES ride like a cadillac / cloud then what is the best option? Thank you
On the F150, depending on the year, the Fox 2.0 is typically one of the softest riding shocks available that maintains control. There are softer shocks for sure, like the kYB excel-g, but with softness comes loss of handling and a bit more body roll. Bilstein is a sportier ride, not the softest shock on the block. Feel free to reach out to support@shocksurplus.com or 213-433-3616 to dive into more details and options for your vehicle.
So pumped for mine😎🤘🏻
yeyas! they are on order through us?
@@ShockSurplus yes sir! Got everything but the front passenger coilover! It’s on back order so I’ll have to wait a little🥲
Where’s the video comparing the 2.5 EXP to the 2.5 IR? Where’s the video reviewing the 2.5 EXP?
We could create one if there's interest
Wow that is insane. Great work
its been fun testing these 8112s
I got a set of these on a ‘23 2.7 TB, snap ring up front. The front shocks ride great. The rears ride better than stock, but they’re loud. They have a clunk & clatter to them. I’ll have to go back to installer & check if anything is loose. I’ve read some reviews where others mention this issue and everything was torqued properly
that's definitely not normal, there shouldn't be any clunking whatsoever after the install. Sounds like a mounting issue, possibly the shop didn't re-use spring isolators up front.
@@ShockSurplus thanks for the reply. The rear shocks are the ones making the noise. Any thoughts on what they might’ve got wrong when installing the rears?
235k on oem gx470 shocks with the variable dampers. They're not new feeling but work fine. The majority of slop in suspension at high mileage is due to bad bushings and ball joints. Over 2" lift requires so much more than UCAs. Also need LCAs, CVs that can handle the constant angle, larger bumps, track bar relocation, different sway bar links, etc etc and still it will put more unnecessary stress on big budget components like the transmission... all to get 1-1.5" more clearance. It's not surprising that the guys selling shocks would tell you to buy them 2-3× more often than necessary...jiffy lube says your oil lasts 3k miles. These guys also casually forgot to mention that aftermarket performance parts require much more frequent service and that most local shops won't have the expertise to rebuild shocks.
No, sorry you're wrong. You dont need new LCAs or CVs going to 2.5" of lift on the GX or 4Runner platforms. Dont need new sway bar links either, as there are drop brackets. We've seen thousands of vehicles get these kits across a bunch of different brands, and talk with all major manufacturers.
Would installing the upgraded front coils that they offer help any? The higher spring rated ones...
Yes, you could change out the coils on the front since they're a universal type of coil, standard is a 16" x 450# coil, so you could go up to 500.
I am trying to do a set up for a 1970s Cutlass Supreme and I am trying to get a luxury ride. I am riding and 22s, what set up do you suggest. I dont race and basically highway driving and city driving.
Those 22" rims are providing a lot of the harshness in ride quality, its hard to rescue that. The best option is also one of the most expensive, and that being a coilover setup from QA1 most likely.
Me watching this right after I lowered my car.😶
Hah! not liking the bounce? How did you lower it? springs? coilovers?
Do you guys offer tuning of the MMR's?
Yes we can get into that, email jeff@shocksurplus.com
hey guys! i want to decide about icon or dobinsons MRR. i like just to go slowly in the dirt.. i can run but nothing crazy just for few seconds. and i want to know. if the icon are good enought going slowly.. i want to get the cdcv valve shocks. and i dont wanna anything bouncy in my truck. my truck only have right know, prinsu roof rack, rooftop tent ikamper and a 180° awning. i will buying more stuff for the truck. so. what can you recommend me. i want a overland vehicule built.
While we've loved our Icon setups on numerous vehicles, their CDCV setup is great, we would categorize those systems as a performance level shock that is meant to play at faster speeds. At lower speeds they may feel too sporty/firm for some, but being adjustable with the CDCV under a loaded vehicle with all that gear, it should be pretty comfortable (it was for us on our Tacoma with 600lb constant load). THe MRR will typically be more comfortable all around, has a lot more adjustment to fine tune the ride. The rebound adjustment on the MRR really makes a huge difference in ride quality and comfort, so that cant be overstated enough. Rebound, in some of our opinion's here, is the game changer for ride quality. Dobinsons typically last a bit longer than Icon in terms of needing service. Hit us up to dive into more details, support@shocksurplus.com
I’m contemplating 4600 vs 5100 for my Outback. The biggest advantage in McPherson setup is the B8 is slightly longer so you can get lift without running a strut spacer.
I am still confused. does the Eibach Stage 1 allow below 2 inch of lift? I keep hearing mixed information
Depends on which vehicle, but most of the time yes it will. There are numerous height settings on most of their adjustable height shocks and coilovers where you can remain at stock, go up an increment (+1" for example), and then the top setting is the highest lift, usually 2.5" or 3" on some applications. Email support@shocksurplus.com or checkout our site for more details on your given vehicle, would love to help.
I rock 6112 and 5160 on my 3rd gen , it handles Johnson valley really well especially when getting air
love to hear it
king and fox 😎
do you ride both?
2021 tundra, currently have 6112, but leaking oil. Will my springs fit on Icon exp? If no can I use an OME spring on the icons?
how long have you had the 6112? warranty? the Icon EXP are meant for factory springs, we wouldn't run the OME springs on there, but then again i dont think we've heard of anyone doing so.
STOP SAYING FCKNG VEHICLE
we deal in cars and trucks, so vehicle is the general term when what we're talking about applies to both. have a good day
Can someone recommend a good shock for a 2015 3500HD crew cab dually. I tow almost every day with a conventional hitch.
Bilstein for sure, stay away from Rancho (in our opinion). The KYB Gas or KYB Monomax are also good.
adjustment is garbage
on these specifically, or in general? the adjustment on these is a slight pain, but not a nightmare by any means, just takes some patience. We can adjust all 4 corners in about 10 mins
On my '15 4runner with almost 73.000 miles with xreas and front leveling spacers I had two leaking shocks. Changed to 4600 at the front using the upper groove of the two available on the 4600 shock (no need for the spacers anymore, it is leveled with the back) and at the rear original Toyota Tokico shocks. 4600 were cheaper than oem at the front and oem were cheaper than the 4600 at the rear. Very close to the OEM ride. Perhaps just a tiny bit stiffer, barely noticeable. Part number on the 4600 is 24-121750 and at the rear 48530-35082.
Are you running e ply tires?
This Tacoma has gone through about 3 sets of bfg tako2, which are c load
Just to clarify your answer above. You’re saying there will be no ride improvement between stock setup (hoss 2.0) and 6100’s?
No, he's just talking about spring rate. The shock itself gives you ride improvement based on all the other comments (still waiting for the dobinsons IMS review for mine!)
Can you guys do locked offroad next?
which vehicle do you have?
@@ShockSurplus Tacoma! 2nd gen.
the piston or these dobinsons are lineal, progresive or disgresive ?
dobinsons uses a linear piston most of the time
Very very helpful video. Glad I came across it. I installed my eibach lowering springs on my 17 Daytona 5.7 about 4 years and 30k miles ago now and just hit 55k miles so it is definitely time for shocks. Ive got strut tower braces, upgraded swaybars and bushings from eibach, and BMR Rear upper control arms. The front clunks and the rear has a crazy squeak at the moment at low speed actuation. Was seriously considering coilovers, but did not even consider that eibach would have shocks to match their springs so maybe that is the move. I'll be considering between those and the bilstiens now (also probably need end links too) RIP my wallet
RIP! The Eibach dampers felt really nice, this Charger driver like to feel on rails and the Bilstein made the different there. Sounds like you want a tight handling setup, there was a noticeable different between the eibach and bilstein b6 shocks
@@ShockSurplus interesting! I’m definitely partial to the tighter handling feel! I appreciate that information
did 6112s with Icon Delta UCA on mt 2018 4runner and could not be happier
love to hear it!
Great video, very helpful. Are you pushing the ifp all the way up or is there a set depth and where do you find the info on the depth?
there is a set depth, which measure where it sits before it comes out of the shock (set by fox), so we can reset it there on the rebuild.
