Jesus came to fulfill the law ..Jeremiah 31:31-43( New Covenant) Old covenant we followed commands for the righteous requirement for salvation, New Covenant we are saved by Grace. Jesus was telling the Pharisees, in so many words . (Y’all out here stoning people and killing them because of outward sin, but you got hidden sins in your heart, and even the righteousness that you think you have is not better than the righteousness of the Prophets …) Jesus was speaking to them in that context because they were rejecting Jesus as Lord and savior. The (Religious leaders) wanted to stick the old covenant requirements for righteousness, but Jesus was letting them know that in a few days.. He was going to die for the sins of the world… the system that was in place for following the laws.. etc was fading away .. they The systems of following the law , and if you broke the law , it meant death etc.. , killing animals as sacrifice for sins.priest interceding between man and God… this was going away ( no longer will be necessary, because of Jesus death burial and resurrection. Jesus was going to die for the sins of the world and become our righteousness .. When we repent and accept Him as Lord and Savior Romans 3: 20-31 The Pharisees were rejecting the means for salvation that was coming. New covenant- we are saved by Grace Ephesians 2:8-9 We died with Christ and our old life of sin was buried with Him in the grave., but we do not continue to live in sin. Romans 6 If we are born again we live a life that follows the guidance of the Holy Spirits convictions to lead us from following our sin nature. John 16:7 New covenant we repent for our sins God’s laws are written in our hearts, and we live a life lead by the Holy Spiritual.. Galatians 5 we don’t continue in sin, and if we sin Jesus is our advocate before God..John 1:12, So we live Holy separate, life of practicing righteous and follow the laws that are now written in our hearts..Jeremiah 31:33 Jesus restored , relationship, fellowship, righteousness, and Holiness back to the world.. that was lost in Genesis 3 and we are saved by Grace and the Holy Spirit helps us with our life.. and the more we practice righteous living, the more we become Christ like in this lost world and become a light to the lost
