Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Favorite Invisible Increase
zhlédnutí 12KPřed 9 měsíci
"And that is as invisible an increase as you will ever get - knit into the stitch below from the back." - Elizabeth Zimmermann I've tried this increase and, as a continental knitter, it's my new favorite! It's one movement instead of two that would be required for the Make One, and it's just as invisible. Enjoy!!

Some of this is Greek to me now but I like it all the same-thanks!
Absolute legend! I was looking for how to do this and could not figure it out! Thank you so much!
Hooray! I'm so happy!
Where can I purchase these needles 😂❤
Those are Signature Needles, they have recently closed sadly.
Thank you very much and greetings from Italy !💚 🤍 ❤😊
Thank you!!
Thank you for such excellent directions and for showing the American style of knitting as well as Continental. I think I can try Magic Loop now!
Hooray! I'm so glad you found my video. I have a complete class that can help you get really good at Magic Loop: knitfreedom.com/shop/magic-loop. Enjoy!
Thank you do much for this. I am making a cardigan and the normal bind off looked so ugly so I searched and tried and searched and tried only ending up in a mess until I came across your videos for invisible bind off and at last I got it and am nearly finished casing off close on 450 stitches.
Oh my gosh congratulations! Good on your for continuing to search. Bind-offs can make a big difference in the finished look of your projects. I have an entire video course: knitfreedom.com/shop/bind-offs. Cheers!
Thank you, you are a literal life saver. My cable cast-on dropped in the middle of a sweater and I almost gave the whole thing up. Thanks!!
I am so delighted that you stopped to Google it before you gave up! Hugs!
i come back to this tutorial all the time, whenever i start a new project. thanks so much !
That makes me so happy! Thank you for sharing.
I watched a half dozen tutorials on the Italian Cast On method for my last project and didn’t get it. The pattern designer responded to my email for help TWO WEEKS LATER. I gave up and did a long tail cast on instead. Now, months later, I find this video for another project I’m working on AND I GET IT! Your video is clear and concise. Your voice is steady and clear. There is no distracting background. The camera is evenly focused. PERFECT TUTORIAL! Thank you so much! I just mastered a new skill.
Hi there! Sorry for also taking two weeks to respond! 🤣Thank you so much for this resounding comment. I made it my life's work to create distraction-free, to-the-point tutorials like this so that knitters can get the info they need and get back to knitting. You can find many more on KnitFreedom.com. Big hugs to you and happy knitting!
Thank you so much for the clear and easy to follow tutorial as well as helpful tips- much appreciated!
Great Trick. Thank you
Thank you. Enjoying my holiday but forgot my tapestry needles. I was afraid I couldn’t cast on my second sock. Thanks a million
Nice!!!
Excellent video. Glad to add to other grafting videos! Thank you for posting. One suggestion - On the last step, if you pull the tail through that last stitch without doing a final twist, you can eliminate that “dog ear” and weave in the ends.
Thank you so much for such a detailed tutorial. It helped me finish my Suri Shirt and saved me so much frustration. Great job!
That's great news! I'm so happy! Thanks for your comment.
Two points. First, "officially sanctioned" by whom? Is there a Central Knitting Authority now? One of the great delights of knitting is that it gives so much scope for individual ingenuity and improvisation; what the great Elizabeth Zimmermann called "unvention". There is no official way to knit. Second, this is a very unwieldy cast-on; what's the purpose of slipping every single stitch off the left needle, turning it around BY HAND, and then slipping it back on the needle and readjusting the tension? It all looks very pointless and inconvenient, and produces a bulky beginning to the knitted piece. There has to be a simpler way, and there is - in fact, there are several of them.
Loved watching this video! Several years back I splurged on four skeins of gorgeous Malabrigo laceweight yarn. I coveted it and hoarded it for ages. Now that I’ve taught myself to spin I bought several braids of Malabrigo Nube fibre to spin myself. The colours are just as gorgeous. Malabrigo yarn, whether bought already spun or spun yourself, is a knitter’s dream. Thank you for sharing this.

Your video is perfect!! Thank you for helping me do Kitchener correctly!!
Hooray! That makes me so happy! Congratulations on doing Kitchener stitch correctly!
This was so helpful, after years of knitting, I never knew how to do this. Thank you so much 😍😍
Oh yay! This is such a good skill. Now you will be able to knit with more confidence!
Can this increase be used when working the toe for a toe up sock?
Yes absolutely!
Thank you 🙏 u have increased my knowledge in knitting thanku so clear
I'm so glad! Thank you for leaving me a comment to let me know. I hope you are enjoying knowing how to do wrap and turns!
Thank you ever so much. So Happy I landed on your tutorial😊 was not able to do it without it!! Thank you again !!❤
Hooray! So glad to know it! I learned this from an illustrated/written tutorial in Interweave magazine many years ago, and it was SO difficult to figure out! I'm glad the video made it easier. You can also do JSSBO on 2x2 rib and it's super stretchy and a lot easier (but not invisible).
This video wasn't helpful--way too fast and it did not work. Had to rip out and start again - should have just left the error.
This is the video that made it finally click for me!!!
Yay! I'm so glad! Thank you for commenting to let me know. I really appreciate it.
Can this be used in any combination of ribbing like 2x2? This is a really easy to follow tutorial. Thank you!
Yes! That is the beauty of this cast-on! Let me know how it goes :D
First time trying this, thank you for such clear instructions. This gives a really nice cast on edge
Thank you for the lovely feedback!! I have a whole video course full of cast-ons like this that you will love. knitfreedom.com/shop/cast-ons. Happy knitting!
Parabéns pelo seu trabalho de tricô. Minha nota e 10. Magnífica suas explicações no tricô.
Muita obrigada!!!

Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this! This frilly bind off is exactly what I needed for my current project. ✌🏻🩷🧶
Hooray! I'm so glad you found my video! I love this bind-off. ❤
@ KnitFreedom - Liat Gat: would I use this same approach for replacing w&t short rows in a sweater pattern? You made this so clear and you knit continental like me so I can see clearly what's going on. I can't even comprehend american style because I'm a crocheter and my right hand revolts at holding anything but a hook or a needle. 😅
Hi there, yes!! You can use this to replace ANY short rows. Just refer to the notes below the video because I did change some specific and important information regarding stitch count. Cheers!
Brilliant! Thank you so very much!
I wish I'd found this video half an hour ago! 😆
Oh no! Well I hope it helps you in all your future Kitchener endeavors :)
Thank you sooo much your are the best
That's how I learned but then....continental knitting is my way even though I'm Portuguese thank you❤
Something simple and, you just took the confusion out of it for me. Thank you🤗
I love that! So glad I could help. Thanks!
instead of removing needle and turning loop, just twist needle in stitch. Does same thing.
Thank you!! Great tip & video!
Im having trouble with the last step, just where to start the final yarn. Once its going, it makes sense... Hm maybe i can start in the middle and then work the other end backwards...?
Hi Meri, sorry for the slow reply. Yes you can absolutely start in the middle and work to either side. Cheers, Liat
Thank you, thank you! What would I do with the loose blue strands at the back? Should I try to secure them somehow? Will the blue keep on raveling or does the green keep it in place? I’m fixing a rather heavy blanket that gets a lot of use. ❤
Hi! Sorry for the slow response! Definitely weave in any ends in the back that you possibly can. Let me know if you need further help; I'm here.
Brilliant
Thx this helps❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤
Excellent demo! It's easy to see exactly what you are doing and your explanation is very clear. Thank you.🙂
Thank you!! So glad you found KnitFreedom.
Thanks Liat!
This was awesome! I have always struggled with this. Thank you
You made a butterfly! ❤
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 me understanding for the first time why I can never undo my provisional cast on in k1p1 ribbing without using a magnifying glass and surgical tools 😂😂😂😂😂 thank you!!
Yes! You're so welcome! It blew my mind too.
