The engine emits a high pitched whine but the source can't be pin pointed at the moment.

Hard first start.
Figured it out?
Apparently the hard first start is due to faulty starter and starter connections. Working on it as we speak. So far found worn brushes and replaced. Not monted on car yet

bit late now ,,, pcv problem , diaphragm in the top of the oil filter housing ,, may be of some use to some one googling the problem , happens at about 100k , pull dipstick out and it goes away , thats the test , dont drive with your dipstick out at all , it sprays oil every where and it will kill your alternator ,,, dont ask me how i know this.
My s60 sounds like this with something ticking on and off is it suppose to sound like that? Recently got it and i'm not sure what it is. Pls help
Yes, it's normal. It just makes a lot of clinking sounds even after you turn the engine off. It goes away, mines does it all the time and the engine is perfectly fine.

+Sami John Did you find the issue? I just purchased a 2006 C70 and although everything works fine the high pitched whine semeingly coming from the engine is a question mark for me. is it a T5 related thing?

Yours is different. I sold the car a while back now so this is a different issue. I am sure you dont need to worry about this type of whine
Oh the one where you have he engine running, it is the power steering assist machinery that makes the noise. If you touch it, it stops it but I did not care after a while because I got used to it.

I also have that problem with my Volvo. I went to a Volvo dealership, and said that its an Oil Filter Housing. When you remove the dipstick, the sound goes away.
I was told the same thing...
Try to remove the oil cap while the engine is running. If it goes away then it the oil trap.

That noise is usual in that type of engine (the B5244S4). Sounds like a whistle right?
Finally did find what the problem was?
It turned out to be the power steering pump. I removed the power steering pump fuse and the noise went away and returned as soon as the fuse was replaced. The noise becomes louder when the steering wheel is turned. I heard the exact same noise on another T5 parked at the hospital. The only way to get rid of the noise is to replace the pump. The noise is not affecting the steering at all and I plan to live with it until I have to replace it
