Bach Invention 13 A minor on a 7 string electric Bass Harley Benton BZ-7000 II NT
I love playing classical pieces on the electric bass. This Bach piece has been with me as a practice piece for a long time. On this special 7 string bass from Harley Benton I can play it in the original key and space the voices far apart to not stand in each other's way frequency wise. Note the positions I use in the right hand: on the lead voice the fingers are close to the neck, and the low voice plays near the bridge.

Shim my Bass - How I build and install a custom Shim on my 8 string bass

In this video I am going to shim a bass. If you have no heard of this term, a shim is a very thin wedge, that is inserted between the neck and body of the bass to change the angle of the neck in relation to the body and strings. Sometimes you can see this done with a small piece of Sandpaper. Proper shimming would be done by inserting a very specially crafted wooden wedge. You could buy those, ...

The composition is based on a theme on which 2 voices, left hand and right hand, elaborate and complement it each other. Took a chance on this particular model, Rene. You also made it sound like 1 million bucks to use American alanguage. Possibly, if I had them disposable moolah, I would have the personnel at the successor to Carvin, Kiesel, build me a model along the specifications of this particular bass. Only, I would have it built headless and with an adapter at the top end so I could use my strings of choice. Furthermore, I would tune the bottom six strings in accordance with standard guitar tuning, not E-A-D-G-C-F.

    Hey nice bass, sounds great. Looks good for practicing modes all the way up the neck. Anyway that's the reason I'm building a small scale seven string. An eleven string from the low F# would be progressive for practicing. I have an Ibanez seven string converted into a five with tuning F#BEAD. That spacious spacing is close to 3/4 of an inch! And someday I'll get some advice on what pickups to install. An acoustic resonator five string with this spacious space and neck profile perhaps. Hey buddy, one more thing the way the strings are wound up more than three times. It's best for resonance but more stress on the truss rod. Probably try and save the string's and detention all string's and shorten the wraps around the tuner's.

    • @BassCave7
      @BassCave7 Před měsícem

      Hey Mario, I agree as much winding as possible (without a mess) sometimes I make a bad judgement and it's close. :) My teacher back in the day told me this way the strings hold the tuning better. And when you have more winding the string comes from a lower position to the nut, thus having a stronger angle causing less unwanted resonance.

    • @marioduron4376
      @marioduron4376 Před měsícem

      @@BassCave7 Actually I also went with similar winding earlier. I'm still not certain about it. But the extra winding seems to add tension. I guess guys might argue it but it's personal preference. There's different directions you can take instruments and most lend itself to a certain tonal direction. I definitely like the extra down tension sometimes but it's not totally nessasery. You know changing the tuners might be good for better down tension like you mentioned. Gotoh tuners are great because of the taper they provide the strings. Well different instruments work with different hardware.

    Hey friend nice well mannered review! And I had a good experience with the ltd 208 I was shipped back in 2022. Though the Dean twelve string is slightly higher caliber. The ltd I have doesn't have any problems. The original strings were low quality but that's expected. And the action is really superb on the instrument I have. But I agree it would be great to have a replacement option for the bridge. I was just going to say I love the body size and shape and the neck feel. But I love this bass for heavy funk slap. I mean I decided to use it as just a four string. And it'd be great to use this bass as an entry to the contra bass. But the eq is really good for slap. Also, with any Indonesian bass keep in mind the instrument will loose weight while it dries out. And things will change for the better. But you got to be pretty patient with it. You know, I got forced air and dehumidifiers just like a professional music store. It's all necessary with a proper investment in instruments. Well I understood the rarity of certain basses, but no need for anything exotic. I got everything I need.

It might require some extra coats to get it completely flush. But Epoxy is quite a miracle substance, hard and flexible to a degree.

    Congratulation ! 👏👏What a beautiful Instrument, I wish I could do this too . And thanx to the chinese workers for working for small Money. 🧑‍🔧🙏

      Yes westerners exploiting those cheap Chinese workers is a bit of a topic. 1. No to Temu forced labour 2. This kind of production is the core of the Chinese wealth and economic growth 3. Most companies produce in China or similar anyway for cheap money as well. Difficult. I think it's good to stay mindful of it.

    I like it, and I'm a 71 year old retired bass player with an old P-bass .

      This is great, the old Fenders are a force to be reckoned with. I have a 70s Vintera Jazz Bass, good copy. I keep getting back to it.

    Have you any experience with Ebonol ®️? It’s a hard substance similar to a bowling ball. It has been used for fingerboards at least since 1980.

      I have not heard of it! I will check it out. I am also dying to know what Ibanez put on their new fretless basses. It has a crazy pattern. I guess I can't just call and ask 😂

      I had an incredible Cort Curbow fretless back in the late 90s that had an untreated Ebonol fretboard. It still managed to get fairly chewed up using roundwounds after a few years. No idea how well it would take an epoxy treatment but it'd prob be worth trying.

    Well done Great Work and playing Thank for playing to cover a wide range of different styles and how well your Bass handled them all sound great , what is the string spacing and what did you use to coat the neck with please ,the wood looks really nice as well, On the Ali Express experience, I bought a Pre Amp module the components on a circuit board type the that you couple up to the Power Amp Stage of an Amplifier (not a foot pedal type) and it won't work.

      For the fretboard I used standard epoxy from the hardware store, not even an expensive one. I believe I did not get a single working electronic piece from AliExpress. They even get the jack sockets wrong. I would buy proper quality when it comes to electronics.

    You're turning that into quite a nice bass, one piece at a time! Still a decent cheap bass if you don't mind doing the work.

      That jack socket was cheap but cost a lot of nerves. Tuners might need replacing as well. But overall I am pretty happy.

    Always test the work done. Test before, test after soldering. Test before and test after mounting. Seriously. I've often had things working, and after mounting it hummed or made some other disturbance. Over 90% of work is to test it. 🚀🏴‍☠️🎸
