Socialist fantasies resulted in massive bureaucracy which led to massive corruption, which of course discouraged industries to set up shop, until the IMF forced India to liberalism or face default, India was stuck with big govt handling everything, and because of this never industrialized to the level that it has to, that's why the big job generating manufacturing sector is lacking and India jumped from Agrarian to Service industry.

India was very divided even before the British arrived. The reason why several conquests and empires ruled was because of that. As much as the British did damage, there was a lot of harm and self sabotage induced by the caste system itself. In fact, the British couldn't comprehend this hierarchical system and the upper caste always sided with the British just so they could retain their statuses. After independence, these upper castles immediately took over the power vacuum. India has 23 official languages and not Hindi alone, with English being the link language to communicate amongst the several states. The statement "English is the colonizer's language" is now a very nice propaganda to impose Hindi amongst all states just so they can easily spread their parasitic backward thinking ideologies into the Indian's mind, in the name of patriotism. Even today, the caste system is hiding behind the shadows and the reason why one would see a vast difference in the development between the northern and southern states of India.

India was a set of small kingdoms before the British came and because of this and the weakening Mughals, it was easier for the Britishers to conquer the entire subcontinent. So in some ways it was the British who helped create the India that we know today. But there is no doubt that everything they did was for their benefit even the rail network was made for the Britishers to move the goods faster and to make even greater profit from India at the cost to Indian taxpayers. What I think is that if the Britishers had never landed in India, there would have been many small states in India among which some would have been greatly developed whereas there would have been other few underdeveloped states. Overall I am pretty sure that India would have been in much better condition if the Britishers never conquered India.

Very Slow pace of job creation taking place in both government offices and privately owned corporates 3.Stealing of monetary benefits (that are supposed to reach the poor) by politicians who make big promises during election campaigns 4. India may be rich for the 10% because the culture of slavery, outdated societal rules like dowry, super low him rights for women and the not uncommon feminicides makes it impossible for the 90% to rise. Plus the cost of life is so low that salariaries are dirt compared to europe and the health standards are not up to standard. The richness comes from the civilized areas of kolkata and chennai as they are modern but the other areas are either rural( north) or super touristy(coastal south) where the majority of people go in vacation. India benefits from its size, not from the power of its industries

This is rapidly changing. Before the westerners/whites say "wE hAvE bEen hearing this forever about India", India only opened up in early 90s, and growth has been very high since then. Just that population growth rate was also high, which didn't correlate to per capita gdp growth. Now that India is below birth replacement rate, and growth rate of population is <0.7 (2022), per capita GDP will increase much faster. China also grew on average at 10% for 30-35 years, but the per capita gdp was still low till 2004-05, but then their population growth rate started going down (unnaturally), their per capita GDP increased drastically. India will see a similar rise, but the growth will be much longer, even if not as high as China since India didn't have the one-child policy.

    • @ulikemyname6744

Depends on how fast the nation can develop. India's economic growth is largely due to the vacuum created by the exodus of companies from China. India still has fundamental problems such as unreliable electricity, lack of education, employment rate is a huge issue as well. India has 1.4 billion people and less than 600 million people work. For such a poor country, that's a huge issue. Literacy rate is still low because of the lack of education. In many ways, India is growing rapidly and that should continue. The population of India is already below replacement so the clock has already started.

Did you think India was stagnant while China rose lol? Not even close, it was just the second fastest growing major economy to China's first. Now they've just switched places. Those companies aren't all marching to India either, nor have that many companies actually exited China, most just diversified.

I double checked it to be sure and there is an interesting article Indian GDP growth 1960-2024. You can see there how there are spikes and rapid falls.

There are so many false claims in this video and you clearly aren't an economic historian. If you were a historian of any sort, you'd know that India didn't exist until the 1940s, you are referring to South Asia, known as the Raj at the time (you seem to be referring to Kashmir, Pakistan and Bangladesh as India in this video, which would be extremely offensive to them. Secondly, the Raj DID NOT become poorer, it's GDP more than doubled which you have obviously deliberately omitted to say because clearly you're trying to make some sort of anti-colonial point. Thirdly, you cannot understand GDP per capita without looking at the life expectancy. Because of better infrastructure, much if not most was built by the British, and British medicine and education, people were living longer and their babies were surviving so the increased GDP was divided between more mouths (the same way that people are getting poorer now in the West despite the Western countries getting richer, as we're just not dying early enough for the economy). Fourthly, tax is not theft, and there is no more right for the Mughal invaders, or local elites to claim this tax than the British (many of whom were there by consent - most of the Raj supported or were neutral to British rule until the late Nineteenth century). Fifthly, the number of famines decreased under the British than its historical norm - yes there were some but you said yourself the area was prone to brutal famines. You hold the British to a higher standard than the rulers who lived there before or since, and the British were certainly more progressive and less cruel than the former leaders and created well over a hundred years of peace. Since the British left, South Asia has collapsed in wars and nuclear standards, the biggest refugee crisis in the world, and Bangledesh becoming just about the most dangerous country in the world. Corruption, socialism and autocracy has kept the country poor, millions have died in ethnic cleansing clashes between Muslims and Hindus and much of the infrastructure has gotten worse since the British left. Your video does attempt SOME balance, but clearly it's far from objective and shows a very limited understanding of the history of the time, the era that preceded it and the politics and economic situations of Pakistan, Bangladesh and India that followed it. The Taliban were trained in camps in Pakistan, which never would have happened under the British.
