These old Swiss style cannon pinions that have that central pin through them are not designed to come off that way! You risk breaking the centre arbour jewel (if there is one) and altering the depth of the jewel by doing this. The correct way to remove these is to support the centre wheel bridge over a hole in a staking set that is large enough to let the pin enter. Now use a flat faced punch to tap on the tip of the pin that protrudes through the cannon pinion. Once you get the pin moving, pull it out from the back of the movement and the cannon pinion will fall off. If you ever find the need to use brute force when working on a watch, stop and rethink your approach. There is always a gentle approach.

Had the same thing on my new RE350. Adjusting it up made it too high for me though. Couldn't find the exact right spot. I then tried a heel-toe shifter I got on E-bay and it was right in the middle of the stock adjustment (due to a different spline alignment) so even though I don't heel-toe shift it is just right for me.
