I remember Olga Korbut the best. Someone posted on gymn site that it wasn't just the fabulous and very high Korbut loop but then she immediatedly went into a blind catch and the 2 elements together no one else has done. Love the delicate music. Is it a medley? Would like to know the name of the music. i love montages with still photos interspliced. And cutting from a gymnast doing a flip from one costume/competition to another during one element. I am looking for someone to help with a movie of the thousands of still photos with computer graphics elements mostly of natalia frolova but have also done shaposhnikova, baraksanova, Nelli Kim and a few others soviets. The film you have included here from the 72 and 76 Olympics is so clear! I wish I could find clear film of Natalia Frolova there was one section of her high flight beautiful leap after answered prayer at the Daily Mirror exhibition in a montage, would love to see Frolova's whole exercise. I

The move that the girl, Kim Gwang-suk (North Korea), did was one named after her: the Counter-Kim. Basically, it's a Tkachev with a front flip on the high bar.

Gymnastics was the first Olympic event televised in color in the USA and Vera was a huge hit here. There were long lines full of Mexicans wanting to get in outside. She was the Queen of the games and stayed in Mexico City afterwards to marry her husband there.

Mili Zj asked who the first gymnast was. It might have been Ernestine Russell, who was on the Michigan State women's gymnastics team in the late-1950s, but competed for the Canadian Women's Gymnastics Team. Russell is featured at the end of a British Pathe newsreel about the gymnasts performing at the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago, Illinois. That newsreel is available for viewing here on CZcams.

I think anytime you have a male coach alone with a young girl there should be a female coach there with her. just not safe. its the same way with male doctors. nowadays women cant have a exam without a female present. really sad that she didn't have anyone protecting her.

Beautiful! Such graceful assurance and fluidity of movement. What a performer and what a brave lady. She is undoubtedly one of the greats. But despite those who say artistry is gone nowadays (not true) it's a good thing the sport has evolved. It's sexist and wrong to expect an Olympic sport to be just a bunch of waif-like girls/women dancing and looking pretty then look down on the ones who do actual gymnastics.

lol at the racist comment. You're right about the sexual behavior of men. I doubt anyone wouldn't be attracted by this girl even if she looks young. Lots of people think today's society is the worst. But no, we just talk more about those issues that's all.
