A really lovely show. I grew up in East Anglia as a child and the show hit home. It had the feel of going home after being away for a long time. Purely majical.

One Foot In The Grave was my childhood. I was 5 years old when it started in 1990 and for the whole decade, this was part of my childhood. I was so lucky to get to see it first when it went out, and so happy that others can enjoy it now. One of the best sitcoms we have ever made in Britain.

I still laugh at the classic line delivered by Johnnie Cradock after she had given a demonstration on how to make ring doughnuts. It was something along the lines of "I trust you found that helpful, and I hope all your doughnuts turn out like Fanny's!"

Mrs Troake just didn't want to give up on her coffee dessert . It was actually quite clever the way she asked Edward Heath whether he would have liked it at the end and managed to let him know who had said it was too rich to be served.😂 There is something sad about all this though. Fanny had always supported the ladies struggling on a reduced budget on her show. She would use alternate cheaper ingredients to help them and when she spoke directly to thousands of housewives through that camera lens she tried to make them feel visible, cared about. She knew poverty as a young person , selling cleaning products from door to door as her father had ruined the family finances by gambling. She was not an angel ( bigamous marriages? Difficult relationships with her children. ) Her physical transformation over the years with the caked on makeup surely underlined mental struggles and perhaps it was this difficult , unpredictable side of her character that took over in that interview. What she said to Mrs Troake was basically right , but the way that she said it , the attitude helped to finish her off . I suspect the BBC , who could have helped her weather the press and public storm or even just edited the programme differently , might have been wanting to replace her with a more up to date show format.

Sophie is a wonderful actress , Sheila has been our favourite character, the scene of Lance confiding in Sheila outside the pub is the most stand out piece of acting in the whole series, Sophie's moment of reflection in the reply to Lance is so emotionally gripping pure gold. Thankyou Sophie for taking the part.

Fanny Cradock ruined her career in 1976 in a self destructive way in a BBC cookery programme. The show's clips are online I think, but her reaction to an ordinary member of the public's dinner menu ideas was what killed her career. One TV show destroyed her. Google it and you will understand
