As it turns out, whenever you carry a 12ga shotgun you should carry 12ga ammunition.

The safest way to unload a top ejecting lever rifle is to push the lever forward, a cartridge will pop out onto the lifter & simply just turn the gun upside down with yur hand over the top to catch the round. Takes awhile but I find it safer.

For decades now I have been telling people who are in the market for an AR-15 to buy one with a 20-inch pencil barrel or a more modern heavier barrel. A 20in pencil barrel is more than adequate because literally 99.99% of buyers aren't getting a selective fire ,full auto model and will only be allowed to own a semi-auto

Sold my M17 3006 sporter because the bullets are hard to get around where I live, 303 british is easier to buy than 30.06. Kept my P14 303 with open sights dovetailed into the barrel like a hunting rifle. I added screws and bbs and gorilla glue and filled in the rear hole in the stock for the cleaning kit because the rifle was super barrel heavy, its abit heavy but still managable and it really takes away recoil. Would be cool to find a remington 30 peep sight and add it on.

Treat the seals with silicone lubricant or something similar to prevent dry-rot.

This is why the US military has variable barrel lengths as a requirement for their standard issue rifles. The box standard M16 (A1, 2, and 3 variant) has a 20" barrel according to Wikipedia, however you often see smaller carbine length barrels in the hand of SpecOps and other frontline high speed low drag types. The 5.56 is a nasty little bugger when fired in accordance with its design.

Most .38 special loads don’t fire 1000 fps . The typical target loads are 750 fps original black powder 38s&w loads pushed 148 grains to 750 fps then the specials gained about 150 fps extra over the s&w load to 900 or so originally then with modern powders could hit upwards of 1000 fps. If u buy .38s&w modern powder loads lawyers have got em backed off to only 450-500 or so! Remember these are all old blackpowder loads so they become convoluted fast. So a good .38s&w load especially if hand loaded say 12-14 grains of bp with good projectiles is a good man stopper. Ppl only consider what’s available on a modern shelf. We could load .38special to 357 power if we wanted! As a kid I cut the tips off specials to fire in old S&w cylinders!!! Cuz the length wouldnt fit into the frame!
