Ep 115 – Polycystic ovary syndrome
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy in women of reproductive age, as well as being a major cause of infertility and pregnancy complications. It includes symptoms of hyperandrogenism, the presence of hyperandrogenaemia, oligo-ovulation or anovulation and polycystic ovarian morphology on ultrasound. It is strongly associated with complications that may arise from it, including insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, fatty liver disease and an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The main aims of treatment are directed at reducing hyperandrogenism or inducing fertility. In this episode, Dr Roger Henderson looks at these in more detail as well as what to remember when dealing with patients with PCOS in primary care.

People whom say they are on a patch forget to take it and feel fine, this is because morphine is still in your system for 3 days. When u take a patch off and you go over the 3 days that is when ur withdrawls start. U have hot and cold sweats shaking and also have jolts like temmors. I had to take mine off for a test and had it off for 2 days, i thought im half way now lets see what happens, that 3rd day i were a mess, it were weekend i didnt know what were wrong with me. Mon morn rang doc, took 5ml of oramorph and my symtoms disappeared. So for u to see ur body is addicted to them, u need to go 3 days without anything, then symptoms of withdrawal will start. I have a spine injury my bowels have messed up with oral and im terrified to start the patches again. I were also allergic to the glue, and got contact dermatitis. I have the buprenorphine patches atm, but so scared as i know what it done to me. It wasnt nice, you couldn't even sleep with withdrawals were that bad.

I have no withdrawal symptoms the only problem I have is I'm in alot of pain and can't get out of bed or do the little bit of walking g I can do with it. So nor everyone has issues with it. Following oxy & morphine, I was taking the patches for years, up to 100 microgram, I did not feel I was addicted because all I felt was better, I feel they are much safer than opioid tablets and injections however should not be considered safe against long-term addiction, If you can have a very slow build up they are helpful but you eventually get too used to the levels. I felt I was dependant upon them not addicted 😢 I guess you can tell a drug addict by the terminology he uses to make excuses for the drugs!!!!!!!

I was on Fentanyl after an operation when my stomach ulcer perforated, when I arrived at A&E they gave me Morphine which didn't even take the edge off. When it comes to Fentanyl patches they are not so risky when used properly, it's when idiots try and eat them like the two that died in America. Use everything prescribed carefully and as exactly as prescribed and you'll be fine! 1 patch at a time is enough, if they are not working talk to your prescriber! When you have a hole in your stomach you'll know what pain is, cancer is not the only thing that is painful prior to that I was taking only gaviscon and Omeprazole and no Opiods, I lost so much weight because I hadn't been able to eat properly for months prior to the perforation and I was totally neglected, if the ulcer was taken more seriously it wouldn't have perforated, living a healthy lifestyle, no alcohol or anything like that, the blame was put on Fluoxetine and Stress by doctors and that SSRI was ripped away cold turkey so you can imagine having to put up with the withdrawal symptoms. That's the thing, I never had any withdrawal symptoms from the Opiods they gave, it was from the SSRI, I will never be persuaded to go back on them again!

Imagine how dumb you have to be to think 'cancer pain ' is different than any other chronic disease pain . Pain is Pain in Chronic Disease! There are Many disorders, chronic diseases that are equal to or Worse than cancer pain, like: RSD, CRPS, EDS, DDD, TN, Darcum Disease, adhesive arachnoiditis, Sickle Cell... and Many Many more you would Never want to experience. Do Not Discriminate against Pain! It only takes 1 bad car accident, surgery gone wrong, unfortunate doctor report and it could be You looking for humane palliative pain care for yourself or aloved one..Make sure medical standard of Care for ethical humane pain management in All patients is upheld for it is a human right to not suffer when a 1000 + years of the use of effective medicine says it doesn't have to be untreated, it's only people and bureaucracy that get in the way of patients getting the care they deserve
