We released a shorter version of this video in 2017. The music for the video was composed, performed, and recorded by Antti Paranko. At that time, it felt bad to publish the shortened video because Antti's wonderful guitar solo didn't get the spotlight it deserved. Now, this injustice has finally been corrected! Can you spot the differences in the video's image and soundtrack compared to before...

It's worth it, but it's not for financial gain. :)
omg metal gear solid
Thanks for the shared knowledge! You are an impressive luthier and your guitars are a work of art. I'm interested in how to make my guitar playable, so I started reading books and watching videos, the information on some things was quite conflicting, that's why I'm writing to you. I recently purchased a fretrocker and found that my frets need to be leveled, then found that the nut needed to be renewed, could you tell me about these purposes is the equal or proportional string spacing at nut is right and flat or radiused leveling beam and short or long beam is the correct tool to use?
Thank you Alexander. 🙏 Good questions - and challenging to answer thoroughly, as executing these tasks you mentioned is a skill that typically takes years of practise and hundreds of fret jobs to master. That said, proportional string spacing at nut is the right way to do it - in other words, the gaps between the strings are made equal width, taking the string gauge (thickness) into account in the calculation. We use a long non-radiused beam for leveling the frets, but I'm aware some use a long radiused beam with great result too. A shorter beam may be useful with some problematic necks, but as said, mastering this skill and understanding all the different factors that affect in individual necks made of wood, thus potentially "behaving" different from each other, sometimes having quirks that can be challenging and need creativity to fix, is a long and tedious journey. Summarizing - you mention you found with a fret rocker that your frets need to be leveled. This, in itself, is only a small fraction of the data needed to analyze what actually needs to be done. If the frets are not leveled, is it because they're not pressed to the fretboard properly? If yes, they might need to be re-seated instead of dressed. Is the fretboard straight or warped? If yes, fret dressing may be a helpful first aid but the correct way again would be pulling out the frets, leveling the fretboard and a refret. And so on and on an on. In any case I wish all the best to your endeavours! 👍
Thanks a lot for the comprehensive answer. I will definitely practice on another guitar first and only when the results are satisfactory will I apply on my existing guitar. I have been interested in luthier making and in particular repairs for several years, but it was only now that I decided to make my first attempts at improving the playability of my guitar. Thanks again Juha, you are one of the few people who inspire me!
@@alexanderallard8584 Thank you! Happy to be an inspiration and of help too! :)
Wonderful guitar and playing!

Was this the riff to a song it sounds so familiar
Olen sitä mieltä, että nauhattoman bassokitaran tulee kuulostaa juuri tältä. Hienoa!
Are those actually real pickup electronics? I've never seen one of those
Thank you. Yes, it is called the Valvebucker. Here is more information: ruokangas.com/valvebucker/

Tried one of his basses a few years ago at a NAMM convention . . . most comfortable bass I have ever held in my hands!

Great tone, great demonstration.

Thank you for being a parts of our lives ….that was cool
Putting a knot at the tuner can cause eventual breakage on the E and B strings at the knot. At least it did for me.
This could happen if the string is either cut too short (so it doesn't wind any whole rounds around the tuner) or you end up bending the string back and forth many times before getting the knot right. But if the string winds around the post a couple of rounds and tying the knot goes smoothly as shown in the video, I don't think there is such risk. I've done this way for 25+ years, to thousands of guitars....
Hairpiece...
Both sound awesome, but the looks of that Mojo King... ❤❤❤
You are extremely talented, and enjoyed your interview that I have not seen in awhile, can't wait to see you all soon!!!

Good taste in whiskey - so I trust this guy.
5:00 Wow you sure that screwdriver is long enough..😂 A sure way to slide off the screw and ding the body.
Where did you get that hair piece? Asking for a friend.
I appreciate your style. I have a partscaster with a Warmoth neck that has the old style heel adjustment, that got kind of buzzy. Looking forward to making it better with your super chill instructions. Thanks!
Thank you, happy to hear the video was helpful!
How can I fix the bridge with tape?
Not sure I understand your question? On the video I use tape so the tailpiece doesn’t drop off when strings removed…
@@ruokangas Sorry for the confusion. I meant how to put tape in the tune-o-matic bridge to avoid misadjusting the bridge height
@@aldocero8959 Ah! Ok, you could simply tape over the ends of the tune-o-matic in a similar way as I did for the tailpiece. If the tape extends over the height adjustment thumbwheels, it will be sufficient to keep things in place. The only thing you should be aware of is that if the tape extends on the top finish, there's a slight risk tearing off chips of lacquer - especially be careful in case the guitar has nitrocellulose finish, relic'd or cracked, etc.
@@ruokangas Thanks a lot for the tip!
Smooth boot to the preamp sounds so rich
Super nice sound and playing! 😊
Excellent video! I adjusted my truss rod using your technique and after getting it too tight the first time, I backed it off a bit and now it’s just about perfect. It’s easy to do once you have done it.
Thank you! Happy to hear the video was helpful!
Amazing looking and sounding bass! The sound is super clean and articulated...

Great video - thanks. Just adjusted my new Strat with your advice and it worked perfectly.
Thank you, happy to hear you got your new Strat adjusted to great shape!
I lived in San Antonio growing up and it was a serious metal city. Many bands got their start there like Queensryche and Triumph. The first radio station to play their music on the airwaves. The first place Rush is heard in the south. Joe Anthony and 99.5 KISS proudly played Twisted Sister before Stay Hungry and San Antonio loves that band.
I and many of my friends who play suffer from the same affliction. GAS we call it Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. The number of guitars needed by those who have this disease is described as N plus 1.
a fool and his money.
1:43 asi fue como se hizo el tema de unbreakeable :0
Funny thing happened to me. I loved smaller frets and med/jumbo were the absolute maximum I could tolerate for 20 years. I didn't even look at jumbos because I was a vintage dude. Then I decided to finally try something different and got a guitar with jumbos. My initial reaction was: "Oh.." I play Jumbos exclusively now. Don't see a point with anything smaller anymore. Not saying Jumbo is the truth by any means but for me it wasn't a case of getting used to. Just my experience though :) Moral of the story is, just be open-minded. You never know. Fuck around and find out.
That's the way! 😁
