Good question! Very different horns and completely depends on what you are after. 90% of the sound comes from the player , but there are big differences in how the horns respond. The Conn is also a low Bb and the thomann a Low A. I find the richness of the sound on the Conn is better, it sings more. The thomann was easier to play in tune though. The Conn is lighter. I just like vintage horns. The thomann is a great Bari though!

Thanks Fred! I didn’t want to distroy Olafur’s music… I almost look at what I’ve done as painting over a finished piece of art. There is a very fine line, and it certainly didn’t need any saxophone. I just like playing over this as a sort of meditation. It helps me focus on sound, tuning, long notes and really is very calming. Thanks for the comment as always!

Thanks for the comment Marie. Wow, £700 is a lot to have it overhauled. You could probably pick up a Pan Am for that, they aren’t expensive these days… not compared to the soaring prices of the more desirable horns. At the end of it all, gear just helps you… the sound comes from the player. I like playing old/vintage horns, but when the cost of upkeep becomes so much I would happily play a modern horn. I played a thomann tenor the other day and it was great.
