Raphaela Gromes & National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine recording Dvorak Cello Concerto
In December 2023, during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the internationally acclaimed violoncellist and Sony exclusive artist Raphaela Gromes travelled to Kyiv to give a concert with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in a show of solidarity. Profoundly impressed by all that she saw and heard during her stay there, including the concert itself, she decided to continue her work with the orchestra and with its principal conductor, Volodymyr Sirenko. The present album is the outcome of that decision.

Good performance. However there are massive distortions at least at 01:13-01:18 and furthermore at 15:05-15:33. That's a pity.

German efficiency--hairstyling does NOT affect one's practice ;)
the interplay he writes really allows the opportunity to match or distinguish bowing styles between teacher & student--very cool!
so many musicological threads running through just those small rhetorical changes by Strauss, some pointing to composers, others I think influenced by competing styles from baroque toward romantic. the small scales, for example, I've seen in baroque staccati phrasing that 'lands' on chords, while just the chord appearances bye themselves should so otherworldly, aka romantic, favoring a more personal expressive style. Strauss is definitely a composer straddling the traditional and the expressive elements through most of his repertoire.
