    Don’t use ethanol

    Drill out the enrichment jet 0.018 to 0.020 inch. Replace the pilot jet to a #38 and main jet to #125. Turn out mixture screw 2.5 turns. Your cold start-run problems will be fixed. Toss the snorkel on the airbox lid.

    I just did this, bike fired up a few times but didn't stay running. Then my airfilter caught fire!

    Absolutely excellent! I bought a new old stock 2009 KLX 250 in 2012, and the bike has had trouble starting at the start of a new season every single year. Thank you for the tip, I’ll give it a try!

    Thank you! I have a KLX250. I have had the same struggles with it starting after it sat for a long period. I use ethanol-free fuel, but a long winter makes it cranky. I normally empty the carb by turning the fuel off in the yard on the last ride in the fall. I did not do that this winter, and it did not turn over this spring. Remove the air filter and spit fuel in trick worked. Do you think there is any negative to doing this method (spitting fuel)? My bike didn't mind one bit and I'd do it again.

      I never found any ill effect by doing it just make sure you put the filter back in its proper Place

    Hey do you have a battery suggestion? I have to jump start it when its cold but then it runs very well. The problem is, i bought an expensive battery that only has power for about 10 seconds, then it loses its steam. Thanks!

      I use a lithium ion battery that I bought off from eBay a couple of years ago probably 4 years ago and it still works pretty good it doesn't have a longevity on cranking alone.. but it's a hell of a lot longer than 10 seconds there's only weighs about a pound if that compared to 5 lb of the lead acid battery

      @@GUNBUNNY2BG4U thanks for the response. What I didn’t realize was these “factory charged” batteries off the shelf are nothing near adequately charged. They probably charge them to a minimum spec and send them out. After 3-5 months on the shelf they’re half dead. I bought a nice one and trickle charged it for 2 days and now it cranks the bike over quite well.

    Hey bud. Iv had the efi models, but on the forums the conclusion that most of the fellas came to is that the carb and bowl are vented too much, and the gas left in the bowl gets stale. What everyone else says is to turn the gas valve off and let it run out when parking it for more than few days. Or open up the bowl drain and drain out the stale gas, then fill the bowl up with fresh gas from the tank. I think im about to pick up a real old one, so will find out myself

      I did try that open up the bowl drain change out some fuel by doing it and still never worked I guess for my bike is a weird phenomenon

    I gotta wonder.... what if.... when you know you are not gonna start it for a while..... or maybe just do this everytime you know you wont start it for a few days.... just let it burn all the fuel out of the carb. aka... let it run, with the petcock shut off, and let it use up all the fuel in the bowl. So next time you try to start it, you open the valve, and let it fill for a minute, then start it up. I wonder if that would make a difference. That's what i try to do with my old honda generator, and when i used to run a lawn mower.

    Why not just use some starting fluid?

    • @GUNBUNNY2BG4U
      @GUNBUNNY2BG4U Před rokem

      Starting fluid actually bad for an engine. this way here it seems to work for me I don't have to take nothing apart

    • @GUNBUNNY2BG4U

      Problem with starting fluid does it burns it creates hard little granules that get juggled around any cylinder which causes flare a lot of people not aware of that I try not to use starting fluid
