Sparrow Takes a Dust Bath | Pittulongu Beach, Sardinia
A male Spanish Sparrow taking a dust bath at Pittulongu Beach, Sardinia. Sparrows are one of many bird species that take dust baths. They create a small hollow and use their wings to help distribute the dust over their body. It’s thought that a dust bath helps Sparrows get rid of parasites, dry skin and excess preen oil. Preen oil is produced in the uropygial gland and used during preening to help keep feathers in good condition.

People are posting about "nostalgia" and "perfect summers". I fucking hate that sound. To me, it sounds like drought, heat and incessant sun, like warm sticky winds and months of room being turned into an oven unless I switch on air conditioning. I have never meant it more than now - ugh.
Woke up this morning with this strangest sound a bit like an old bed creaking loudly, been looking for all possible birds but can't find that sound, it was around 5am it had the same pattern of getting louder and louder as if it were flying closer. If anyone knows of what could it be?

We’ve had rooks visiting our garden this year for the first time. It was a bit of a shock at first as they are quite big with creamy coloured beaks and we had to look twice when we first saw them eating the seeds and mealworms out of sieves we’ve put up. The thing they like the most though seems to be fat balls and they cling to the fat ball feeder for dear life pecking at them frantically, finishing off 5 fat balls in no time. Surprising how nervous they are, despite being quite large birds. If they’re in our garden they leave quickly if they as much as see you at the window.
Where I am, it's jackdaws that feed from the fat ball feeder. As with your rooks, they can polish of several in no time at all.

Moved to the UK a year ago, and I've been wondering what that sound was! For some reason I thought we just had a bunch of owls showing up in our yard every morning, like spam from Hogwarts.
I finally found what sound it was!!! Growing up, I always thought it was an Owl. Then, at some point, I just thought "Wait, how can it be an Owl when it's daytime outside?" So I kept on wondering what kind of bird or thing it was. I also thought it was possibly a dog that is very,very far away, and I might have heard its last remaining echos. But that while listening to the actual sound of this bird wouldn't make sense. So that wasn't a dog. So I instead of keeping on guessing on every possible thing the sound was, I looked up every possible bird it could possibly be, then I made it to this bird. I've unlocked my XBOX achievement there.
This is the best video on CZcams of this birdcall out there. Sounds like an urban summer evening to me…way to hot apartment, windows and doors open, warm breeze, setting sun, and the sound of Common Swifts way up high echoing off the buildings. Thanks for uploading!
