Hello World! I'm just an audience really, I love nature & science programs, comedy, and watching happy people and different cultures mixing together. I watch what I like and "thumbs up" to what I agree with. And I would humbly accept any friendship offered to me.

Actually I'd written this music first. It was my original image of this whole video. Then it always changes as time goes by, and eventually I end up realising I have absolutely no idea why I'd even made this to begin with. lol To make something creative, you need to have a clear image of what you want. Then write it down immediately before the image dies forever, so you'd remember it even after...

Finally theres some realism in the hair area. Of course it still needs a lot of work. I mean I didn't even take the time to make a different face from my last vid. lol I'm just too busy doing absolutely nothing to make this video any better. Hope you like the music though. Software used, Autodesk Maya, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects.

As Japanese I’m glad that he talked about this movie.we have to watch this in schools.I cried so hard.
The same thing happening in Palestine but much worse

Dehumanizing people is the devil’s work.
I love this movie ! Even if one has not experienced wars ,if you aren’t moved my this film and your conscience is not pricked ,for the terrible consequences of war , you are not human . Ghibli is an exceptional anime studio !
Shota was not a saint. he represents teens in this modern days too. He doesn't know how to relay or communicates to people. He has some responsibility for his sister's death. Could we really blame his aunt?
I host a Sunday night, dinner and movie for myself my significant other and my two best friends so effectively it’s a double date at home tonight. I am going to be showing them graves the fireflies and I’m concerned that I might break them. I really hope it does.
Americans are knuckleheads especially artistically. Stubborn square backward bunches filled with prefixed preconceptions.
No professional movie critic, at least western, has go so deep into Grave of the Fireflies and anime as Roger Ebert did
War is the joy/power of old rich men at the cost of young and innocent, with no thought of the destruction thats left behind in its wake. 💔🥺
7:45 I agree with the primacy of the story over style but why would you ever say that Western animation is technically superior to Japanese? Have you seen Ghost in the Shell or Akira? And these are ancient examples.
If this was reviewed by Roger Ebert in 1988 it is pretty amazing to hear in 2023. Now Anime is mainstream and we have the luxury of being able to choose from so many shows and movies. Roger Ebert was so far ahead of his time in regards to his perspective on Anime and Anime as a real medium of art and cinema in a period where it was considered weird or just cartoons. A master at movie review.
This movie made me so sad. I couldn’t stop crying for almost an hour after watching this. 😢
Apperently the little girl died in real life becahse her brother wouldn't share his food 😢
the movie is a masterpiece that i will never watch again . I dont have the heart
What's the song in the beginning? Wow!
It’s from the movies soundtrack
Grave of The Fireflies is a masterpiece that you can only watch once
Did Roger Ebert know "anime"?
"moved JUST about to tears" meanwhile I was ONLY in tears
Roger Ebert is sorely missed...
Can’t find Grave of the Fireflies in blu ray. Does it exist?
DVD (´;ω;`)ウゥゥ
Blu ray no but piracy still exists.
@@SupremeOracle I bought the DVD many years ago. Ghibli has everything in BR except for GOF??
@kenjifox4264 I was just joking! They do have it in Blu Ray
@@SupremeOracle I’ve searched with no luck. I find all the other Ghibli movies in BR except that one. Ghibli’s own website has buy links to every movie, except for GotF. They only show information about the movie and says there is a BR version but has no link to buy one.
a 'pillow shot' fuck yeah movies need to get those in there.. my god
Who came here after reading about the movie on Facebook?
I dont think i ever cried this long after growing up (iam 18)I was just sobbing tremendously watching this masterpiece
Israel , are you listening?

I concur, with the rest of the positive comments (this movie is just so dramatic), but I do have something to type, that ruined it for me. During the whole movie, they went through so much grief (House burned, Mother died, Lived with an Aunt that didn't want them there, their Father died, they had to fend for themselves/steal to keep fed, etc...). The problem with this movie for me, is that after he took his Sister to the Dr., the Dr. mentioned, that medicine wouldn't help anything for her rash/ills......she was undernourished, and needed to eat good food. So what happens next?.....He goes to the bank, hauls out money and buys rice, chicken and water melons............WTF!? If he had money in the bank, all of that time, why didn't he just buy good food for him and his Sister, when they were starving during the whole movie? I'm a movie collector, and if there's anything that I hate.....it's a dumb movie (i.e.: Grave of the Fireflies and Gravity).
More relevant than ever
Many hate on this film because they see it as apologia for the Japanese regime through these characters, they will say the response to what Ebert said is that it is not _our_ fault that their country is burning but their dictatorial government & that the movie makes Japan out to be the victim when they were the ones to declare the war. I don't think this is false personally, it's a problem I have with the movie too, imagine if someone made a movie like this but with German children, for example & if it didn't emphasize the victimizers as being the government but rather made the allies out to be the villains. There would be rightful uproar about it. However I do contend that its not really ABOUT the war, it's a story SET during the war. I also think thats an important distinction to make.
I just discovered this, and I cried.
Never heard Roger Ebert speak on film before. I'm impressed with his analysis. Thanks Mr. Ebert.
WW2 was a war that needed to end as soon as possible. Every Japanese civilian... every man, woman, and child, that suffered in Japan, suffered because of the actions of their government, just as those Americans that died in planes, and buildings, and everywhere in between on 9/11 did. They died because of their government. Be very concerned by those people that represent your interests in governemnt, they can very easily get YOU killed.
Thanks, Captain Obvious, but this is a critique of a film, not a platform for your politics.

I knew the ending and the storyline going in. after half an hour i could not stop crying. Makes It is a beautiful life and boy in strip pyjamas seems like comedy. The metaphors are so heart wrentching.
I watched this a few days ago and honestly, not once did i feel like crying nor was i ever stunned into silence by what was going on. I still think its a 7/10 but not the masterpiece so many claim it to be. There is far better out there than this.

i came here after Oppenheimer. omfg. i only watched the 20 mins of ending. god damn i cant imagine watching it all.
Watched it today and literally cried like a baby .. trust me you're not strong enough to watch it twice, you just can't !
The best animated movie of all time, and I can’t watch it again.
Saddest movie I ever saw, after The Plague Dogs.
I watched it once, and that'll be the last because it's too sad and painful to see it again 💔
brilliant. every details they showed. every details he absorbed.
Roger was moved almost to tears? My tear ducts ran dry for a week after I watched this the first time.
This is the saddest movie ever made.
When I was younger I, for whatever reason, was not much of a fan of Roger Ebert. It was likely because he gave a harsh review to a movie that I enjoyed and I petulantly (and with gross arrogance) decided to disregard his opinion entirely. This video has completely changed my mind.
doesn't matter how many times I watch this movie; it makes me cry every single time.
Grave of the Fireflies is easily one of the best films ever made. It hurts you in a way that leaves you emotionally drained by the end of it.
Fine that this is the tragedy of the victims of war which sucks. Objectively Nazis were terrible people though, since if they won then subhumans would be whoever they deemed not pure enough. So i am glad the Allies won that war
Wish the interview was without those scenes from the movie cause they make me remember of those painful moments.
First time I ever saw this movie was on IFC. I had no idea it was a Ghibli film.
my biggest mistake is, watching the grave fireflies alone, i cant handle it 😭 the only anime that I don't want to rewatch.
