I don't have a more comprehensive guide to this achievement. The first wars against the warlords are good practice before dealing with Japan. Perhaps do a non-Ironman start and save the game shortly before you battle the warlords. Then, practice a few times until you can comfortably defeat them. Then move on to practice with the more challenging Japan. Even with my experience, I still do practice runs in non-Ironman to refresh how mechanics, research priorities, and division recruitment. Great question! This civil war, like the civil wars for some other countries, spawns units for the enemy. The enemy get units at the start, even if you disband your army. @@friendlycat4170 Thanks, I noticed that on my 2nd viewing of the video...For the life of me I can't get the achievement..I get bogged down attacking Venezuela (lost 2 armies in w games) and finally went and attacked Columbia first. I. My current run got both of them, plus Ecuador and a brutal bogged down battle for Cuba after taking Haiti and Dominican Republic..Now poised to attack USA but waited too long because of Cuba and missed my free annex wargoal..gonna use Operation Just Cause to kick it off but it is late 1940.... BTW, what version of game and which DLCs are enabled? Thanks for a response...

For factories on air, I generally go for something like 1 factory of the first 10 factories (10%), then 4 when I have 20 factories (20%), and increase to 9 by the time I have 30 factories (30%). I'll stay at 30% of factories on air for the rest of the game, if I have sufficient rubber. I'll also use CAS multi-role with bomb locks in the front slot and machine guns in the second and eventually third slots. I won't build dedicated CAS-only or fighter-only airplanes. I don't think it can be done by puppeting all of France. It might be possible to annex most of France, and leaving a democratic France the state with Paris and other states near Germany to form a corridor so that Germany can get to Paris. I have not tested. To get Race for Germany, the global flag achievement_france_surrender must be set, or active. To determine what criteria must be met for that flag to set, we can check the events folder for the file France. France the country has to meet the items below. State 16 is the state with Paris. So, it may be possible for you to annex most of France and leave a small part for Germany. has_war_with = GER has_government = democratic 16 = { is_controlled_by = GER } is_in_faction_with = ENG ENG = { has_war_with = GER } surrender_progress > 0.7 Good luck!

As far as encircling units, it took me a lot of practice and a lot of Ethiopia runs. By the time I make a video of a run, I've likely played that country more than ten times. For Ethiopia, I played a lot more than that. Definitely try to liberate countries as early and with as few faction wars as possible. Every time you liberate a country, they have a chance of joining any faction that is at war with the country that they rebelled against. By 1942, several factions will be at war with each other. Each time you liberate a country, they may go through multiple insta-join checks before you have a chance to bring them into your faction. The earlier you liberate, and the fewer faction wars, the more likely you can bring them into your faction.

I tried that too but I felt like without the manpower and industry of the central america and the carribeans I couldn't get too much of a numbers advantage against the US. I usually end up with 40 divisions or so by the time I start the war.

You would need to be democratic, be in a faction with England, and England needs to be democratic. Then change government and demilitarize the two states. Thanks! It looks like you had a lot of fun! I think it is a good strategy to attack the US without continuing past Peru. You don't really need the last South American countries and I would probably do the same to ensure I take out the US before they join the Allies. Instead of using the Seize the Panama Canal to start the war with the US, a direct justification on the Philippines might be faster. If you're able to take out the US before they join the Allies, I think you're in a good place to also take out the USSR before they can assassinate Trotsky. Good luck!

@@friendlycat4170 I got "New Home..." in the end. New run, puppeted South America, quick knock-out of the UK as soon as Germany took France. In the peace deal I took the Royal Navy and puppeted Denmark so I had somewhere to invade the USSR from. Hit Leningrad, and Tallinn. Then invaded from Riga to pincer and encircle their army. Germany then joined in. Got enough war participation to puppet the main chunk of the USSR. Definitley easy enough when you're just focussing on one achievement!

Glad you like the guide! I don't have a great tip to taking Venezuela, as they are challenging. Prioritize taking the ports for supply. A failed port landing is better than stranded divisions. Also, I would try to take Venezuela before the Caribbean, as Venezuela might have a larger army by the time you attack them if you wait until after the Caribbean. You could attack Columbia before Venezuela as well. Good luck!

I deleted the original video source, so I cannot post it. I'm not sure I'm going to rerun this achievement in the near future. I have a fair amount of video guides out on the different parts of this run, including defeating Italy and driving north to the Suez. Yes, in some parts of the video, so that I can explain what and why I'm doing something. For example, I spend 2 seconds in real time to change the garrison law, so I slow the footage down to give time to communicate what's going on.

These are NATO symbols. They are not part of any DLC. They are available in the base game. You can use NATO symbols in game by opening the Game Options window, navigating to the Game tab, and checking the box for Use NATO symbols.

It is a little weird, yes. I play on an ultrawide monitor at 3440×1440 resolution. Widescreen monitors may show this video with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Agreed that you could Order 66 them. I fully support people playing the game in a way that they enjoy. I caution against the use of exploits to complete achievements because we're missing an opportunity to get better at the game. There are some achievements that are impossible to Order 66 or otherwise exploit. I think one reason some people struggle with the Ethiopia achievements is because they have overly relied on Order 66 for prior achievements, but we cannot Order 66 Italy. We must defeat Italy with our skill in land combat.

I wouldn't plan attacks based on a location, but instead of where you can make encirclements. If Germany in your game places a strong concentration of force in Konigsberg, I probably would also be unable to destroy them. At this point in the game, Germany cannot be strong everywhere. If they are strong in Konigsberg, place defensive divisions at the supply hubs in Poland. Let Germany move into Poland and stretch their supply lines. Don't attack into their strength. Then, assault into a weaker spot, such as perhaps along the coast toward Koslin and Stettin.

My pleasure! The run was a blast! The Allies and Germany are weak because we are attacking in 1937. Russia starts with many military factories and the largest army. It can take on the other major countries before they have time to get stronger. Even on historical focuses, Russia can start its expansion immediately after the civil war concludes. Instead of attacking after the civil war, you could also choose to build up for a few years. Russia has a powerful economy. On historical, five of the six states for the achievement will be held by the Axis later in the game. It may be a good plan to attack Turkey, as the only non-Axis state, in 1936 before the civil war. Then wait for Germany to take Austria and Czechoslovakia, and Hungary and Bulgaria to join the Axis. You would not need to go to war with the Allies. The Allies would also be at war with the Axis.

@@asgardplays7139 That is rough! I've had bad runs on non historical as well. I know you can do this! Maybe give it a try on historical. Japan will not attack you. First take Turkey and Romania. Then win your civil war. You can attack everyone in 1937 or early 1938, or instead build up for a few years and wait for Germany to attack you 1941.

LOL that transition does look pretty bad! The general looks like it jumped levels because I edited the video to move forward a few months but the screen shows the same part of Ethiopia. At 1:10, the date is Jan 14. At 1:11, the date is May 20. I don't exactly see the general jumping from level 5 to 9. He looks like he goes from level 1 to level 4. When gets to level 5, he does have 9 attack. Thanks for pointing this out!

By justifying on the Philippines and capitulating the USA quickly. A direct justification on the USA or a delayed capitulation could result in them joining the Allies. High World Tension may be a factor in the USA joining the Allies.

Assault divisions of 27 width infantry with 8 battalions of inf, 3 battalions of artillery, 1 battalion of medium tank; and support of recon, engineer, art, AA, and logistics. I also had assisting divisions of 27 width infantry with 9 battalions of inf and no medium tanks, but otherwise the same as the assault divisions.

I use the resistance occupation law of No Garrison to release manpower from the garrisons. After I use the manpower to recruit new units and replace lost manpower in deployed units, I go back to Local Police Force. This is a link to my guide with more detail: czcams.com/video/2HdbuoqZuC8/video.html At the start of the war with the US, I have 407K deployed manpower in the Army in sixteen 27 width Inf divisions and 76 six width Cav or Inf divisions. 38K manpower is in the Navy. I am short 145K manpower for my resistance garrisons. I am on Limited Conscription and I have not completed the focuses to increase manpower. Total recruitable manpower is 479K. @@friendlycat4170 Thanks for a tip, I was on Local Police all time. Tried to go with integration focuses to fix this a bit but it goes too long before US starts. BTW, with my few attempts I was able to land in USSR late '40 but then Trotski was assassinated before I completed a conquer. I was thinking on completing collabs before beg '41 and put all my spies at home to counter assassination at least once. Could be interesting to see if it would help.

@@vonleeb4846 Good choice for Local Police. You may want to go No Garrison at least some of the time so that none of your manpower is tied up in resistance garrisons. All of your manpower should be used by your military. I would probably not take the integration focuses because, as you noted, they delay your invasion of the US. You are correct that collabs are helpful. In this run, I started my first collab on 8/26/39. I used 150 PP for a third operative to chain the second collab to end on 11/4/40. If I was doing this run again, I would start my first collab as soon as I met the 50% network requirement to try and complete a third collab by the end of 1940. I don't think putting spies at home or investing in the Passive Defense upgrades to the Intelligence Agency will ensure that Trotsky stays alive. Most of the other posts and videos that I saw and my test run had Trotsky dead in early 1941, even with spies at home and Passive Defense upgrades. One run I saw had Trotsky survive the attack in 1941. He died in 1943.

I tried few times however always run out of time because for some reasons conquering Venezuela was such a pain and lasting much longer comparing to your vid, although I was landing in the same provinces as you with the same force. So, in my desperate tries I have turned off last 3 DLCs and bingo, you have no spy agents and agencies, Trotski can last for ever. I would say, with all newest DLCs active this achievement is insane. With last 3 DLCs off it is hard but doable. Anyway thanks for tips and discussion, although I have over 1k hours on hoi4 I still learned new things thanks to your vids.

@@vonleeb4846 My pleasure! I don't consider it cheese or an exploit to turn off DLC released after the content for an achievement. I don't think the achievement was created with the intent to have the tight Trotsky removal timetable that we currently see with BBA.
