Brilliant! I still laugh about that today 🤣 That is so cool that you’ve not only spotted the video but realised you were kinda in it to! We rented a video camera down in Douglas for the day just so we could enjoy the memories for many years to come and here we are. I was from a very strong background of LC’s and YPVS’s and knew just how well they could go - and you certainly proved that plenty of times during those laps that day. To be perfectly honest I had/have no idea where we first met or whereabouts you first came to my attention I’ll need to watch it again. I wasn’t hanging around too much and you certainly weren’t that’s for sure. I continued racing on and off till 2008 in New Zealand then got into VMX, enduro for a few years and did a couple of desert races here in Australia now. I’ve got a Superduke1290 trackbike now as well but I think it’s probably time to get a grip! How about you? Thanks again for the message and the entertainment that day. My family still have a competition spec LC350 F2 spec tucked away back in the UK. 👍🍻

@@Youchoob1 hi i paid £90 for it 10 days before the manx 250 rolling chassis with a 350 motor thrown in single disc and drum rear 😂 we set off together for practice that time i didnt know until i watched the video i think i qualified 13th on it it blew up in the race i think my mate mixed fuel wrong as it ate the main bearing cage but hey we were there living our best lives😁 I raced the bike at knockhill a few times in the modstock class Happy days bud keep living the dream

@@user-yt7up7sv9y I thought I recognised your name, but that would’ve been from the Knockhill meetings probably. There’s a fair chance you’d either remember the LC I mentioned or even some of the bikes we used to run in the class. You had balls of steel turning up with a bike of that pedigree! Shame you didn’t get a finish though. My GPZ900 died a very serious death the year before in the Newcomers. We had soooo little cash back then it was unreal how we ever managed it!

I use to ride an 85 KX250, it was fast but had an on-off power delivery that needed a fit rider with their wits about them - that's not where I'm at lol! The CR480 with the pipe it had on it was so much easier to ride and the low down flexibility it had, as well as through the rest of the rpm range, was fun, and helpful to use. I was in my late 40's when I started dirtbike riding so forgive my lack of talent lol!

@@Youchoob1 a harley lol...i just bought a cr480 yesterday should be here next week im very excited but nervous aswell i have ridden an rm 400 when i was 13 i owned it so i rode every chance i got for a couple years.a friend had a 480 and ive wanted one ever since.

@@haydenspence6952 Which model year have you just purchased? They are great bikes with a decent power delivery. The pipe I had actually gave it better lower and mid range as well which really helped. I think it was a DG pipe from memory.

Hi Gino! I'm sorry Bud but for some reason I have completely missed the fact you had commented on my video - my apologies... Last I heard you were setting out to travel the length of North and South America on your Norton, around 4-5 years ago maybe? As for video from 1988 I do have some footage that you might want to revisit from later in that day I think it was.. And I'm still kicking myself for not trying that fancy tank I had made before raceday! You did beat me though! :D

@@mvd944l And I'm sure there were a few great stories to share for sure. That F1 GS1000 used to go well, but the ones I came up against in NZ some 20 years later were unreal - they were spending $35k on those things and 150-60bhp from memory.

I did! It was a brilliant place to ride. I've just realised there is some serious synchronisation issues with the video and the soundtrack unfortunately here - hope it didn't spoil it too much. Do you know in the Nelson MCC still hold events there? I don't live in NZ at the moment...

@@Youchoob1 nah man the farm owner has recently over the past 5 years had 5 kids so he has his work cut out for him it's sad to see the track go to waste but as of yesterday I picked up a crf 450r so I'm planning on opening it up a bit so me and my mate can go have the experience you had I never got to ride the whole track since I was about 7 when you guys were riding it but I did ride little sections of it in my crf80 with my dad and brother can't wait to get back up there with my new bike 🤙

No it isn't. It's generally accepted to be the area of the beach that is to the south of the river mouth. Far less people and a great beach, and an interesting walk along the coast to the south of the actual beach area.

They certainly are. I'm happy to be corrected but Steve Hislop for example very often only really had a mildly modified production spec bikes to begin with, more often than not racing against the best available RC30's, and the rest, from other manufacturers.

@@Youchoob1 There’s a lot of ‘ rubbish ‘ surrounding the RC 30. They had their faults but they overall the were/are reliable. People who race them chase horsepower but as I say, I’ve built mine to enjoy. NLO spec. was kit parts. I don’t have the HRC cams because they offer little overall improvement over the stock camshafts bit I have virtually everything of importance else, including new kit pistons I’ve guarded for 20 years! One true story about tuned versus stock was when one year Joey Dunlop was racing for Honda Brittain in N. Ireland. I’m not sure whether it was the Ulster G.P. or the N.W.200. The R.C.30’s Honda Britain were running had to come in to refuel as if I remember right they were running the TTF1 Kit carbs which were the basic stock carb casting but opened up to 39 mm with different slides, air jets, needles etc. Joey, knowing the course and looking for an edge, calculated that if her ran his bike with stock 38 mm carbs the bike wouldn’t need to stop to take on fuel. So without telling anyone, he swapped the carbs over ( He was an excellent mechanic ) and went out and to the surprise of the team didn’t come in and won the race by I believe 7 seconds. The other riders were furious but this story does support your contenetion that in the end, it’s the rider that counts...

@@johnnyrvf Brilliant story and one I haven't heard before! I loved the RC30's in many ways, but only ever rode a standard one on the road once. Their arrival changed things by an enormous margin for many in the sport, as no longer buying the latest GSXR/FZ/GPX750 could really cut it anymore - but for the well-funded there was now a margin which could be purchased.

This was recorded in Western Australia. Some great riding that varies greatly - it's not all like this by any stretch of the imagination - and it gets pretty wet at times as well if you like mud! :D
