This is a drill for helping a horse that is stiffer on one side than on the other. The demo horse here is a green broke 3 year old, and you should be able to see that she is soft and flexible in both directions.

He has always had a clean, consistent pattern. He runs with his inside shoulder up, and even on both sides.
