Grappling Hook CE [Legendary Deathless PoA]
Grappling Hook CE is a fun little experiment mod where you get a Halo Infinite style Grapple ability with about a half second cooldown after each use. In most levels the Grapple would break gameplay balance, but in enclosed levels such as PoA and The Maw the Grapple ends up adding gameplay depth in such a way that makes the gameplay experience a bit smoother and more interesting compared to Vanilla CE.
The main effect of the Grapple in PoA is that much of the sluggish downtime and excessive linearity gets ironed out a fair bit. Those things are not massive issues in Vanilla CE as there's also a lot of downtime and restrictions in the gameplay which add to the gameplay experience quality in their own ways, but overall the Grapple is a net benefit in levels like this in Vanilla CE.
It's good to keep in mind though that this is far from the best way to improve CE, because filling gameplay depth gaps with additions to the gameplay sandbox instead of powerful player abilities does a lot more good for the style of FPS that Halo is. And I should also mention that adding depth with both powerful player abilities and additions to the gameplay sandbox would make them clash with one another. So the best approach with Halo style game design is to have the gameplay depth come from a complex gameplay sandbox, while keeping the player abilities simple so that they're more compatible with all of the gameplay sandbox complexity.
It should also be mentioned that the Grapple ability in Hinf changed pretty much every part of Halo's design to one extent or another in order for the Grapple to not break the game, with Campaign level design and enemy behavior design being among the most notable examples of what was affected. The fact that nearly everything in Hinf needed to be shaped to accomodate the Grapple just goes to show how incompatible Halo is with being designed around advanced mobility abilities.
Now, the reason for why I think that the points in the previous two paragraphs are important to have in a Halo game design discussion that relates to the Grapple ability, is because plenty of people are of the opinion that because the Grapple ability is fun in Halo Infinite, that means the Grapple and/or other advanced mobility abilities are the right way to evolve Halo.
Should the Grapple be in Custom Games as a gameplay aspect that some gametypes could include?
Perhaps even have the Grapple be a Campaign skull that works similarly to how this mod works?
If supporting those doesn't hinder more important aspects of development then sure, why not.
However, the bottomline is that the style of FPS that Halo is benefits immensely more from gaps in gameplay depth being filled by sandbox elements rather than powerful player abilities, so designing the gameplay around sandbox complexity with minimal player abilities is the best way to go for this style of game.
Nonetheless, I'm glad this mod exists; as it is a neat way to experience CE with some unique extra spice.
Not to mention that this mod provides a useful way to study the Grapple, as it is a controversial aspect of Mobility Halo game design.

    I'm playing this mod on legendary with 6 skulls activated anger catch mythic that just wrong thunderstorm tough luck . I'm struggling a lot at the moment, I don't know if I'll be able to finish .I didn't activate all the skulls because in my opinion the game sucks with everything activated

      This is a simple mod I made years ago with the community modding tool called Assembly, and it works by having one of your armor abilities such as Sprint be modified to instead function as a camera toggle, meaning that at least with this method you can't have a standalone camera toggle button and an armor ability equipped at the same time. Another limitation is that this method doesn't allow you to zoom in third person. Some people have figured that out in recent years, but I haven't looked into it myself. Yes, this is on MCC PC. I never released this as a standalone mod as the intention with this is that it's a somewhat simple edit which you can implement to various versions of Reach, including overhaul mods.     Actually you dont HAVE to do this in 100% New Game+. Using the Superflame, you can hit all the gemlights, which automatically teleports you to the top of the ladder. You get the orb from there, as well as the last handful of gems to collect in the level if you already defeated enough enemies to activate that flight portal.

      Yes. You actually got me curious as to whether someone had made a video about this back in the X360 era and I did find one from 15 years ago, uploaded in 2008. This guy uses Spiker melee to fight this Chieftain in a 1v1 melee fight while the other Brutes watch on the sidelines: czcams.com/video/hLGEOtn8O5k/video.html As a sidenote; it's not a 1v1 fistfight though since this guy lets the Chieftain take out his Hammer, not to mention that the Spiker melee has more damage than the Plasma Pistol melee. My method requires constantly manipulating the Chieftain's AI through very specific positioning of yourself relative to the Chieftain's location, in order to force the Chieftain to always consider punching you to be the best option it can take; which is not 100% consistent but it's like 95% consistent. Also worth mentioning is the fact that I had a bunch of other custom rules that I imposed on myself which I detailed in the description to make it extra challenging and therefore extra satisfying to pull this fight off successfully. Nonetheless, that video from 15 years ago is great to see as proof that a 1v1 fight with this particular Chieftain was always possible ever since the game's original release.

      Because since the very start of the fight and all the way to the end, I kept forcing his AI to prioritize using melee attacks against me by positioning myself at the correct locations relative to him at the correct moments. One small mistake on my part regarding this combat dance would've made him take out his hammer, and thus ruin the fistfight attempt; which happened about 300 times before this successful attempt that you see right here.

"health regeneration" I always thought AI had only a limited amount of health regen, does this particular chieftain have full regen or something or is that something that applies to all chieftains in the game?

      1. Basically this fistfight is not supposed to exist. Throughout this fight I just keep being at certain ranges and locations relative to the Chieftain at the end of each one of his animations in order to forcibly trigger his AI to prioritize meleeing me the whole time. If at any point throughout the fight at the end of an animation an immediate melee hit became a small enough priority for him as the next action to execute, he would take out his Hammer like he's normally supposed to, making him end the fistfight; which I obviously didn't want for the purpose of this video. He's also basically guaranteed to prioritize melee if you're behind him, whereas being in front of him is risky cause there's a chance he'll want to use his weapon instead; that's why I had a lot of failures at the initial respectful bow part of the fight where RNG made him just take out his Hammer instead of punching me. The distance at which I chose to give him a respectful bow in this video is about perfect for persuading him to melee me; any farther or closer makes him more likely to take out the Hammer in my experience. So this whole fight was a bunch of constant AI manipulation with style on my part. 2. I was also surprised at the fact that I was unable to kill him with punches on Legendary difficulty with Mythic skull on. I'm pretty sure this Chieftain has entirely the same stats as any other Chieftain and I've looked at the stats in mod tools before, so I didn't think those stats would be enough for his health regeneration to outpace my punches. I do have a theory that maybe the Mythic skull also lowers the health regeneration delay on top of doubling the health; but who knows, that's just how I felt while fistfighting him.
