Mnaadenmaadaa Gchi-Nishinaabenaanig - Respecting our Elders
🌿Anishinabek Nation: Caring for Our Elders Initiative 🌿
The Anishinabek Nation is addressing a deeply important and sensitive matter-elder abuse within our communities. Our Elders are the heart of our people, carrying the stories, traditions, and knowledge that sustain our ways of life. We must ensure they are treated with the dignity, care, and respect they deserve.
Elder abuse can take many forms: physical harm, emotional distress, financial exploitation, and other types of mistreatment. It is a difficult subject, but one we must confront together. Understanding the signs and dynamics of elder abuse is the first step in protecting our Elders and ensuring they continue to thrive as the keepers of our wisdom and traditions.
To support our Elders, Anishinabek Nation has launched the Caring for Our Elders Initiative to provide critical resources and education:
📘 A comprehensive booklet covering key legal topics such as elder abuse, wills and estates, and matrimonial real property law, all specifically tailored to First Nations contexts.
🎥 Educational videos offering clear, practical guidance to help Elders understand and navigate these important legal matters.
This initiative is a call to action for all of us. Let’s unite to ensure the safety, well-being, and dignity of our Elders-our most treasured knowledge keepers-today and for generations to come.

I saw another guy make moccasins and he actually made a pattern of his foot started with the right foot and then you just flip it over to the left foot so just trace around your foot and then do the half Inch thing up or down

This is going to come off arrogant, so please forgive me in advance. You bring up an instance where colonization still places pressure on the youth today @11:10. If there were schools and jobs available on the rez, do you feel they wouldnt be so pressured to leave? If so, whos responsibility is it to build that infrastructure, natives or the us government? I feel if the government stepped in, it would be viewed as more colonization/assimilation. So it begs the question, why arent native governments providing infrastructure for their youth to fourish on? Again, forgive me for the ingornace. Im genuinely intrigued by the issue. As an outsider looking in, i think native governments need to do more for their people. It would preserve the culture far better. Because youre right, people need education and access to good paying jobs... would be nice to see all that worked out internally on the rez. I suppose it conflicts with preserving the land, so its probably a really complicated issue.

All of my grandmothers greats babies ALL walk this path. The prophecies have shown this to us!😊
