Wonderful making this freely available. The best recording by a country mile: Guinness worked with Eliot on the Cocktail Party and many other things and understands the poem and poetry in general far better than the miserable and monotonous Jeremy Irons. The Quartets are quartets in the sense that they use themes and develo them somewhat in the manner of Beethoven's late quartets and like his music, need to be read with the EARS not the eyes! These poems make much more sense if you ditch the texts and let the music work...

The video reminds me of that period. I was in primary school when this video was made in 1983. Drab looking, yet charming at the same time.

I have some blurry memories from this summer. I was 7 when this came out, but remember my uncle buying me Lets Dance by David Bowie and Baby Jane by Rod Stewart in 1983, and also remember the very hot weather in the school holidays. War Baby was part of this soundtrack to the first summer i was aware of pop music. Such a classic year for uk pop music, Blancmange-Blind Vision, Wherever I Lay My Hat- Paul Young, along with some classic USA stuff, Michael Jackson - Wanna Be Startin, Flashdance - Irene Cara in between. Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield.
