    Here is a note of caution. Do not put pencil erasers in a case with a silver plated finish pencil erasers give off a gas called suffer dioxide which causes tarnish. Sulfur dioxide is in the air we breathe. Charcoal impregnated paper manufactured by 3M absorb the sulfur dioxide. The larger the horn the more strips you will need in a case. Cases are also known to give off gases which can cause tarnishing. Great product.

    It depends on how much sulfur dioxide the silver plating is exposed to. Keep this tip in mind do not put pencil erasers in a case with silver plated instruments. The erasers off gas is sulfur dioxide.

    Hi, when I am testing for a leak in that area without any specialty tools, I should be play testing with the neck attached but without tightening the neck screw, and then do the same when I apply the teflon tape. Am I correct to say that?

    • @jeffreymassa
      @jeffreymassa Před měsícem

      The disk setup you see in this video is a stack of three 80 grit bristle disks- that’s pretty aggressive. Most of the time you can see I’m moving the disk at an angle to the rotation of the disks…except where I tip the disks up on the edge to clean up at a post base or flange. If you move the tool parallel to the spinning disks you’re more likely to make grooves that correspond with the disks in the stack. Since this is 80 grit, it’s just the first step in cleaning up and pre-conditioning the body for a patina…I’ll be working my way into gentler grits until it’s got the finish I’m looking for.

    • @jacobgittelman1188
      @jacobgittelman1188 Před měsícem

      @@jeffreymassa gotcha! I’ve been trying to use the silicone polishing wheels you guys sell, but I’ve found they leave streaks as well, any suggestions for that? Thanks!

    • @jeffreymassa
      @jeffreymassa Před měsícem

      @@jacobgittelman1188 Similar technique with the silicone wheels- since these wheels have knife edge to start they can be very aggressive… which is great for getting into cracks and corners but dig in if not used with care. I try not to use the silicone wheels out on flatter surfaces but if I am I’ll tip the wheel at an angle to the work and push it along so that I’m using more of the side of the wheel. Very light pressure- the wheels only do work where they touch the material and pressing then down doesn’t increase the contact, it just increases the chances you’ll leave a groove. I mostly use the silicone wheels to contour edges and smooth joints, and use the bristle disks on larger surfaces. Just like any abrasive, you need to remove all of the scratches from the coarser grits as you move towards a finer finish (or you’re just polishing scratches) so it’s sometimes best to use less grit and more patience.

    Actually, once you commit to unsoldering why cut at all. If you unsolder the screw side, perhaps you will be able to get a better grip and save the screw. If you unsolder thread side, you may save the screw and avoid the alum bath.
