I started to.make this for Christmas gift got the 3m cut each at 10 ft but rean out of cord What did I do wrong?

Question; does the thickness of the dowel matter in this project or any projects. Also, does it matter how close or far apart the Larks knots are? I have too much room left in the middle of the DHHK’s. Please advise thank you

I love this! If I wanted to do the middle section in another colour would I put the coloured cords in the middle from the start? Or attach different colour in the lower section of wall hanging? Hope this makes sense!
