I've used a 9L2 before which only had s video it was very comparble to any other 9 inch pvm, it looked great and had nice vivid colours.

Hey man.. I found a sony trinitron Wega at a resale shop.. Its very heavy.Its built into the stand that it sits on. It takes about four men to move it. But I have been told thats its the best CRT you can find for 6th -7th generation. But I was wanting to also play 5th gen on it. SNES and Genesis. Do you have any experience with that set and 5th gen consoles?

Where do you even store all these? they take up alot of space

I got one of these for $30 at a local thrift store. Probably an overpay but I love it and use it all the time for testing stuff

How would you compare the PQ on component between this and the 14” Toshibas you mentioned? I have a choice of this one and a 14AF45…will mainly be used for xbox/halo 2.

Is "Web" the only option under video label settings that you notice actually affects the picture? All other choices (Game, DVD, etc) are the same?

I picked up one of these and found that my light guns will shoot to the right/have a dead zone on the left hand side of the screen. Do you know if this is just inherently an issue with the set, or possibly something that can be fixed with settings in the service menu? I have tried component cables with a built in guncon port, and composite. Same issues with both. The issues seem to line up with what others experience when there is too much latency.

I have this same set. Unfortunately it has a horizonal bend at the top. Still playable but kinda distracting. I wish I had someone local to fix it, if possible..

Monoscope replaced “Linearity”. You can check linearity by darkening the monoscope 6 clicks til the white is almost gone and the red box is very pronounced. Then you adjust til the red square is truly “square”, and that should do it.

Are these 100hz? I ask because you say it has PiP.

I have the same set. It is one of the better 13-inch I have ever owned. Only problem with mine is that it's composite output is broken. It displays a picture but it looks as if it's on the wrong resolution. Odd.

Skip these, they are not worth the hassle (and back pain). They mostly do weird interlaced modes, and most run 100 or 120Hz, which introduces other problems like early interpolation algoritms and lag. 80kg, for a TV with a few inputs, many working awkward due to strange resolutions, upscaling or frame doubling, which a rather small visibale screen area, bad geometry and low brightness.... I'll pass. A (near) free Panasonic FullHD plasma destroys this. It has the correct refresh rates (24/50/60Hz), it has the correct HD resolutions (1080p and 720p), it has way more inputs (4xHDMI, 3x SCART, s-video, component, VGA, RF, composite), it has insane contrast and wide gamut colours, and it is just 30 kg with twice the screen area. You can hook up literaly EVERY TV game console ever made, from the RF output on an Atari 2600 to a PS5.

My Panasonic TV has issues with horizontal scaling and crooked corners causing a bit of a funhouse mirror effect, but my menu only has H-POS and the vertical adjustments. How would you recommend adjusting it?

Really appreciate you making this, I've got the original remote on the way right now and this is going to be a world of help opening it... this is a different beast that my 20" Sylvania. I'm assuming you had to mess with the yoke - did you have any issues with it not sitting flush against the tube? My Sylvania did that and I had to lay it face down and tighten it to fix it... I'm worried about handling this one due to the weight so if that happens again I'm screwed lol edit my yoke is BONDED so it's strip time

Great video! I have a Toshiba CW34X92 (their first HD Widescreen TV ever and it has a micro filter tube) and its a Real Toshiba. It's fully Lagfree 480P & 1080i. I love it for my PS2 and PS3 and VHS/DVD. HD CRTs are just cool and idk why. If you can find the Toshiba models made before 2003 I think those are all Real Toshiba's and not Orion.

I have a NEC monitor that I swear has one of the best composite video of any monitor I have, but I wonder if it’s more so because it’s a Shadow Mask, or that I love the look of it the most. It’s the only Shadow Mask crt I have unfortunately, however I would love to find another. I’m generally someone that prefers a softer look than a pure sharp look(Though I still love testing things out with S-Video or component.)

always love to see crt comparison video coming from crt enthusiast! its cool that size, tvl, tint, tube health, tube type, mask type, inputs etc all contribute to how the picture looks on a crt. and videos like this helps us who like a certain looks to get an idea on what type of crt we should be looking for without actually buying and trying all of them. thank you and please do more of this!

I have a PVM-2053MD. I did not know that you have to be in a MENU before you can press DEGAUSS+ENTER to get into Service Mode. But from your video I got the inspiration and I finally managed to get into Service Mode. There I could do all the changes I needed and now I have a great picture. So… thank you and all the best.

Will have to look into one of these. Something about crt color monitors going up to S-video always intrigues me. I also agree that I find S-video good enough for something this small. Whenever I compare picture quality amongst my CRT’s, the JVC’s I have always are among the best for me.

Are you keeping it or selling it? If you do sell it I would love to buy it from you.

Love my AF 14 & 20 inch sets. The 20 inch looks so much better after you unplug the edge enhancement thingy. Also Shiren the Wanderer is a fantastic game!
