Polaris Secondary Clutch snap-ring removal

This video will show you how to remove the snap ring (or circlip) so the two halves can be separated on the secondary clutch. The service manual says to use the PU-50518 tool (Universal Clutch Compressor Tool), but I do it here without the tool. Much faster to do it this way. Note: This clutch is from a Polaris 2013 -500 Midsize. This may or may not work with your clutch.

      @@KirkA0906 thanks. I dove in this last weekend and tore the top-end down. The cause could not be clearer…major case of piston slap with scarring on both the piston skirt and some minimal damage to the cylinder. My upper and lower rod connections are nice and tight. Waiting for parts to do a top-end.

    • @KirkA0906
      @KirkA0906 Před 5 lety

      The problem was the gasket. There is a gasket under the cover on the side of the motor. Easy fix. I think I ordered another gasket from Yamaha, but you could probably use RTV just as well.

    • @hunterboehm7135
      @hunterboehm7135 Před 4 lety

      Do you know the name of the part or possibly part #? Idk what that would even be called.

  • @KirkA0906
    @KirkA0906 Před 5 lety

    James, If the buttons were worn that far, it would probably have worn the face of the cams in both halves of the sheaves. There was some galling on mine too and I just smoothed it the best I could. With the buttons being worn, the top speed might be lower than normal. Also, you might notice a jerk when you let off the gas and let the engine speed slow down the ride. I am sure there is some noise associated with the metal to metal contact, but you probably wont hear that over the engine.

    its the cvt trans the belt is whinning mine does the same thing when i let off the throttle... i think it sounds cool lol

  • @KirkA0906
    @KirkA0906 Před 6 lety

    Just a follow-up. There was several things wrong with the differential. The looseness in the rear axle is due to worn axle splines. The noise that you hear when I rotate the tires is a busted bearing inside the trans. I ended up pulling out the transmission and replacing several of the bearings. There is actually a hole in the side of the diff that was caused by the busted bearing.

      I have the same thing going on. Was it difficult to change?

    • @KirkA0906
      @KirkA0906 Před 5 lety

      Johnny Williams I still have the play in the axles. It is because of the worn splines. Leaking fluid is because of worn seals. Seals can be easily changed w/o removing trans. If the bearings are shot trans has to come out. Not really that hard to take out.
