Here's the 2024 #garlic crop part way through the season. We'll be #harvesting in about six or seven weeks. We got lucky with this crop...we didn't get it planted in the fall, but took advantage of some warm weather in March and got it in the ground. We covered it with wood shavings, and not a day too soon! It was snowing the day after we finished planting and we were covering it while the snow...

She's a #farmdog through and through. Charley works hard and keeps the #wildlife away from our #livestock... And sometimes she gets a litte muddy doing it. She doesn't seem to mind...she might even be proud of it! She also helps us move animals and lets us know if they get out of their designated areas. And good luck sneaking onto our property...not even the neighbours can come for a visit with...

Cows don't have any top front teeth, so they use their tongues to swirl the grass into their mouths so they can then cut it off with their top lip and bottom teeth... I got a close up of our dairy cow, Clairabelle, eating grass. She also makes 50-150 litres of saliva/day to help with her digestion - that 100 times the amount of saliva a human will produce in a day! She doesn't eat just anything...

Daisy, the Jersey calf, learns about the electric fences. You can see she's no worse for wear afterwards. The fences deliver about 8 kV but at 120 milliamps, so they aren't dangerous, they just sting enough to not ever want to touch them again.
