These are only made in left-hand-drive, and considering how rarely it is used, it's probably not worth the extra cost to convert it.

@@BluesAndReds Yes, I get what you mean! It's the interference between the two different wail tones. It's much easier to hear without yelp and horn going, as at 3: 12 in my video "Best of Police Vehicles Responding"

Here's a little bit of random siren trivia... This vehicle has an older setup on it. The setup is a WAPol spec Hazard 1000 series with single speaker mix tone, and aux Banshee with it's own speaker. What you're hearing in the video is the single speaker 1000 series playing whilst the Banshee is running aux wail mode. It sounds a little funny because the mix tone of the 1000 series is actually a lo-fi recording stored on the EEPROM of the 1000 series amplifier and it's really distorted and running at a slightly lower power to mix through a single 100w amp module. The later WAPol fit outs use the exact same SLIC controller setup with two aux buttons/switches, except instead of a Banshee and 1000 series, it's a single DNA Pursuit siren unit with Banshee and Hazard 1000 series tones programmed. Thus you can only have two tones going at once, and not the three like with the older setup. The current WAPol siren controls are as follows: SLIC with standard 'Alert' button for instant light/siren activation Auxiliary rocker switch near SLIC which enables the standard Banshee wail when active, and only comes on when the main siren is on. Auxiliary push button to activate momentary low-frequency Banshee wail/yelp which are cycled via HRT (Horn Ring Transfer). Fun fact - the WAPol 1000 series didn't have HRT introduced until 2015, which meant you could only change between wail/yelp via the small Alert button, extremely inconvenient when responding! The pre 2015 models had Mix, (which is assigned to the SIREN2 button) activate when Alert was pressed, whilst post 2015 activated wail/yelp mode when activated via Alert. Depending on the aux rocker switch position, HRT will give you a electronic horn sound whilst depressed, and swap between 1000 series wail/yelp. If the toggle switch is on you'll get a mix of Banshee and Hazard wail, or Banshee Wail and Banshee yelp.

Further more, here's why WAPol went away from the 1000 series and Banshee setup, instead opting for the DNA only: 1 - Ecco Safety Group who own Hazard, Code3 (and many more!) - have discontinued the 1000 Series so agencies have to use the DNA setup 2 - The Banshee amplifiers aren't quite made for the Australian climate and they kept burning out in one way or another, especially in country vehicles. 3 - It's cheaper for WAPol to just buy one DNA unit opposed to two separate siren amplifier systems.

Plenty of Passat wagons in the eastern states, they're based on the same platform.

@@thekiwicanuck True, but up here in Qld they mostly have Kias, Mitsu outlanders, Ravs and Sportivos for the general duty fleets anyhow with a few bimmer 540ds in the Hwy Patrol units amongst the more common Stingers, paddy wagons and the 4bees are a usually a mix of Hiluxes, Patrols, 300 series cruisers and Rangers. There also used to be a lot of Hyundai iloads few years back but I'm pretty sure they've been phasing them out for the Staria vans.

@@thekiwicanuck It's always been the NSW coppers that get all the good stuff as their chasers and biggest variety with Vic a close second, the rest of the country get fairly mediocre but mostly reliable options I guess.

@@thekiwicanuck yep, totally agree lol, I deffo miss seeing the XR8/XR6T Falcons , SS and R8 Commos as Hwy Patrol up here too, sucks that our car industry has shut shop, now as you know it's a mix of imports that are easily subjected to a range of major supply issues when they inevitably arise as we've seen lately and most probably cost the taxpayer twice as much or more to buy and maintain when considering the BMWs and the other mid to high end brands.
