John Deere Harley rake laying a perfect seed bed
After hauling in a few hundred yards of topsoil, and rough grading it with the skid steer, we put the finishing touches on this project. Our John Deere Harley rake does a perfect job of fine leveling this area, and getting it ready for seed.

Building a strong Allan Block retaining wall to BEST PRACTICES takes a considerable amount of excavation. Our Narrow mini excavation equipment gets into the tightest of spots, and moves a alot of soil. Deere 17G mini excavator is 39" wide, and digs down to about 6' deep. Wacker Neuson DT10 is 31" wide and carries about 6-8 wheelbarrows worth of material. It doesn't get tired, and climbs uphill ...

      Steel. I use it on concrete, asphalt, concrete pavers, and gravel. Part of me would like the UMHW edge, but I have never had a problem with the steel. I have never noticed it cause any damage. Its barely made a dent in wearing it down in 3-4 years of use. The backdrag will scrap very clean, while the main pusher leaves about .25" in some conditions. Mostly because the edge runners make the main blade float a bit. Overall does a great job!

    "power rake" not "harley" harley is a brand that isn't actually related to these peg scarifiers. Frontier itself calls them Power Rakes. No idea why everybody keeps calling them harleys. The funny thing is that these are what a worn-out rock windrower looks like and if you're trying to f-up a lot of soil and knock rocks out there are rock rakes that are much much more effective at both. That tractor could drive a ten foot rock rake without trouble at all.

    • @back40landscaping
      @back40landscaping Před rokem

      THe float doesn't work. For some reason it actually pushes the tractor front wheels up. It would need float on the down, and LIFT cylinder to work. After using it for a few hours its muscle memory to apply the correct amount of down pressure. If you apply to much you loose steering.

      No. We have chains, but only used them once to try it. With turf tires, and less than 8" of snow the 1025R handles the 72" Hla snow pusher just fine. If its deeper I take narrower swaths. This is in Abbotsford B.C Canada, where the snow is usually pretty wet.

The vast majority of the time we need our excavator, skid steer, and track dumpers on a job. Making one trip can save hours of transport time. And doing so with a dump trailer allows us to haul materials in and out. I have no issue spending 5 min to put an excavator in the back of the truck. if the job is an hour away, I just saved 2 hours by making a single trip! Sam

    I don't know if my comment went through but I will do again. Do you like your HLA snow pusher? Which edges did you get for bottom edge and back drag edge. Which would advise on a gravel driveway?

    • @back40landscaping
      @back40landscaping Před 2 lety

      I love the HLA snow pusher. It's very well made, and the snow does not build up inside of it. I have the 72" one for our 1025R tractor. Handles the snow the majority of the time. When the snow is wet I take narrower paths. I have the standard steel bottom, with the steel back drag kit. The steel has not damaged concrete, exposed aggregate, or asphalt. A snow pusher is a must in my opinion for tractors as their hydraulics are so slow. Not having to empty out a bucket every push saves time, and makes a tractor a legitimate snow removal machine. Snow pushers are great at putting the snow exactly where you want it, while angle plows are better at opening up a long driveway etc. For a gravel driveway if the ground is frozen you will have no problem with going forward as the skid shoes will float for you. Backdragging is a little more skillful as you can easily pull gravel... Not a lot, but some. It's better than just using a. bucket though. The only other option you may want to look at, although I don't use mine is a set of Edge tamers... They are a cheap add on for a bucket to make it float 1/2" above the surface of gravel, or a lawn... They seem good, but again the bucket hydraulics are pretty slow on these little tractors. Best of luck in making your decision! -Sam
