    Lathe work starts at 3:57... :/ As far as constructing the tool holder.... why not just use a bolt and bushings? That was a lot of work on the milling machine to make it round, no?

      for strength and rigidity when resisting pressure. the bushing is simpler to make but it will reduce rigidity

    Hallo What is the angle at minute 9:28 video when you cut the piece?

  • @mosfet500
    @mosfet500 Před 2 měsíci

    Thanks for the video. Upside down cutoff is a good idea but there are a couple of problems with yours. Tools bolted to tool posts have greater extension and less rigidity. The other thing is the angle, it should be ~5 degrees, you can cut that in the end of the blade but then it makes sharpening a pain. These blades get sharpened a lot so you want to just be able to touch them up on the grinder.

    it's strange why you didn't put any padding when processing the radius rounding, touched the base of the turntable with a milling cutter... because you used a small height pin as an axis when running in, and did not want to use the lining at the opposite end of the part!

  • @user-ds6qf2mv1q
    @user-ds6qf2mv1q Před 4 měsíci

    but you could just slightly reduce the diameter of the cone in the first version of the holder, and there would be a gap. The location of the cutting edge on the diameter line is more correct than in the second variant. (но ты же мог просто немного уменьшить диаметр конуса в первом варианте державки, и был бы зазор. Расположение режущей кромки на линии диаметра более правильное, чем во втором варианте)

    Most commercial spring style parting off tool holders pivot at least the blade height above the cutting edge. Usually 1 1/4 its height. When it vibrates it pushes it much further away. You dont actually want the spring action to play a part until it is overloaded. A razor sharp cutting edge and slow down the RPM. Set it slightly below center on the chuck side with the high side of the blade top edge 0.001~0.002" below center. High frequency vibration is the enemy. Then you should be able to load it safely and cut an easy 0.010" per revolution. Start out at the lowest RPM you have and then find the limit material wise as well as machine rigidity wise. Cross slide wear and lead screw wear play a huge part. However the way the cutting edge runs parallel wise to the spindle axis is also important for reducing the blade wander. If you have to run it fast rpm wise just get a carbide as they are not as sensitive to abuse.

  • @TheMadJoker87
    @TheMadJoker87 Před 5 měsíci

    its an interesting design, but it could use some more rigidity. altough i have to say it, what is the point of going trough all that trouble with the spring if you are gonna end up joining both sides with a screw on the back? it defeats the whole purpose

    • @KereaktifEngineering
      @KereaktifEngineering Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, actually, this isn't perfect, there are still a lot of things I need to fix, maybe next time I'll make it again with a different design.and what you mean by the bolt at the back is to prevent the holder from bending inward, not to connect it.Thank you for commenting cheers.

    Just mount a regular tool upside down with reverse spindle rotation. It will cut much better and faster.

    • @KereaktifEngineering
      @KereaktifEngineering Před 5 měsíci

      that's hard to do because my toolpost is too small. if I install it upside down the cutter tip is too far from the center point.This is one of the disadvantages of mini lathe that way is possible if I change my toolpost.cheers

    • @dazaspc
      @dazaspc Před 5 měsíci

      A reverse parting off tool only works better when there is a significant wear difference in the cross slide lead screw.

    • @KereaktifEngineering
      @KereaktifEngineering Před 5 měsíci

      Maybe yes.My toolpost is very small so it has limited space to adjust the height especially with the shim system. In my opinion this is still not perfect, maybe I will revise the design

    I do not understand why such a complex to machine round bar clamp. A simple drilled and reamed hole with a brass screw to prevent galling the round rod would have been very simple to produce. I would not call this the best vise stop ever, just another version. The main clamp has limited depth for items in the vise jaws, if you wanted to be able to use it for some large item, and needed to reference some surface deep to the front of the vise. And bolted directly to the rear jaw, limits how wide a part in the vise can be. Lots of nice machining setups, and your radius plate on the RT is useful. Good video assembly. You need to justify why such a complex rod clamp.

    • @KereaktifEngineering
      @KereaktifEngineering Před 5 měsíci

      Thank you for your comment, sir. Yes, actually it can be made very simply, but many of the same types of tools have been shared on YT. I want to make it different and unusual and because machinist is my hobby, I enjoy every complexity during the process because it can train my skills and experience
