Hello. Interesting interview. I do not know Mr. Williams. I landed here while I was researching James Arthur Williams from the book, _Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,_ but this is intriguing. Do you just interview veteran citizens in your community?

I knew Larry from 1972 until around 1982. He was always kind and thoughtful gentleman. Watching this made me realize he never talked about his time in the service. He did give me his machete and his GB crossed arrows. I still have it 40 years later.

The library has partnered with Mr. McHenry to conduct these interviews. While it may seem like a waste of time, the family information is documented to be used by genealogy researchers. In more recent interviews, I have tried providing timestamps in the comments so people not wishing to view the family history questions may skip ahead. Thank you for taking the time to watch our interviews, we appreciate it!

Update: James, or as we affectionately knew him, Uncle Jim, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023 at the age of 89. I (Ryan Kricker, his grandnephew) and the rest of the Kricker family miss him dearly.

Two of my brothers were at Wheelersburg for the track meet that day. Know the at least three local schools were there Wheelersburg, Clay snd Minford. My brothers were on the Minford team. Our mother and I were supposed to go to a banquet that evening at McKale High School where he taught. So when I got home from school mom told me to go take a shower and get ready. As I started out of the bathroom I noticed that the door seemed very difficult to open and mentioned it to mom. We lived in Swauger Vally Road just south of the junction with Shumway Hallow. She ran to an east facing window and said we have wind coming let’s get the windows closed. Our window were old wood framed windows and we used sticks to hold the windows open. After getting all the windows closed we huddled in the hallway. Suddenly it became very dark and we could hear the wind picking up. As the wind passed we started to reopen the windows just to find that the south facing window in mom and dad’s bedroom had gotten soaking because the stick and not gotten clear of the window and had left a little gap. Afterwards we went out an found that one of our trees had lost its top and another had been blown broke off pretty much at the ground. Our two fuel oil tanks were turned over with the top of one facing north while the other faced south. Our neighbors which lived on Shumway Hallow had one tree snag down in their house and the large weeping willow in their front yard had been uprooted. Several people later said the gap that was left under the window probably saved our house from getting blown off the ridge point it sat on of getting torn apart. Later when my two brothers got home they told us of severe damage at the airport, the little league fields and the picnic grove at the north end of the when they got to Minford field house they found the entire roof structure had been lifted from the field house and sat down in the middle of the foot ball field. A as anything that was not was secured down in the field house was gone. My brothers had to walk the mile and a half home in their track uniforms and cleats. My oldest brother was on the old Grant Bridge and our sister was in Massy Hall at what was at the time Ohio University Portsmouth Branch. They both told of a large funnel that if it had touched down probably would have damaged both the bridge snd university. Dad got home a little later from working construction at the power plant at Manchester. When they ask somebody what was going on him and the guys he rode with were told that Wheelersburg had been wipeout as well as everything within two miles of Minford. Whee we n hd made it home he was elated to find everyone was alive and well, but also told us that the entire south end of Swauger Valley Road was covered in heavy hail from Sciotoville up to Woodsridge. We were just glad that the lord kept all sex of us that were in the immediate area alive snd uninsured through all of the craziness.

Funny how willing these Korean and Vietnam veterans are to be recorded for history. They were all chumps and pawns of their imperialistic post-WW2 Government. They did nothing for American safety, security and freedom. To believe otherwise is to embrace a falsehood. I'm a proud Vietnam/Draft resistor. I wouldn't be willing to do any of these videos if I was a veteran of those wars. Why would I want to tell the world I was an ignorant asshole who got used?
