Applying color! Part 1 of 3 color application to turtles and frog statue
This video demonstrates experimenting with applying watered down acrylic paints for adding color over statues that have been base coated and contrasted (dry brushed).
Don’t like the watered down colors you apply? You can simply rinse off before dry and try others.
I find choosing 4-6 colors to work with and blend in areas works best
Practicing this method is fun and it’s easy to go over if you aren’t satisfied with results

How to make mold release for latex rubber molds
zhlédnutí 2,2KPřed 3 lety
I recommend purchasing a high quality wide mouth spray bottle. Shake well prior to each use. Spray your latex molds just prior to pouring and then tip them over until ready to pour to prevent pooling of mold release. Pour concrete into molds, tap them out well to prevent air pockets (I use a rubber mallet).

Using 3 shades of brown, I simply use a dry brush technique to detail the branch . No need to rinse out brush in between switching shades of brown colors as you want these to naturally blend. Using a shade of green, I simply use dry brush technique to apply green to leaves. If you find that your shade of any color is too bright, simply add a few drops of your base coat (black in this case) to y...

Simple application of base coat using spray bottle. Use a quality wide mouth spray bottle and shake well prior to use. Hose down concrete prior to application. This allows tor the paint to seep into concrete as it is porous and it will soak it up like a sponge and it will provide great adhesion for next application.

    Hi Tammy I have a quick question. I use cement all rapid set concrete mix & after the critters have set for 2 wks I do a base coat. I do your method but my ratio is thinner. I only add 1 gallon on clean slate color ( rustoleum studio) to not quite half of a 5 gallon bucket. After the 1st coat is dry I go back & brush on another coat where & if needed. Ok to my question, sorry for rambling on. So after I dunk my critters/statues into the bucket of base coat & set them on some scrap hardware cloth left over from my chicken coop to drip dry. Once they are dry & I go to remove them, some are stuck & leave the small design of the hardware cloth on the bottom. Then it wants to peel off! I wet them down by also dunking into a bucket of clean water before putting in the bucket of base coat. Why is it doing this? How can I get rid of that on the back of memorial plaques I've made? Please help if you can! I just started doing this 4 months ago, so still a newbie.

      @concretekeepsakesbytammy7166 Před rokem

      I’m not sure I understand entirely. If you set your pieces up and off the surface from where liquid paint collects, then you should not have a problem. You could always let them set for about 10 minutes and then run a cloth over the bottom. Keep practicing because you will learn a lot of things through trial and error. I’m sorry for my delayed reply.

    Hi! I'm just starting out. But just wondering when it comes to watering down the base paint, does the recipe have to be precise? Or just as long as it's watery???

    • @concretekeepsakesbytammy7166
      @concretekeepsakesbytammy7166 Před rokem

      As long as it is watery and provides semi transparent to full coverage, depending on your desired goal with painting. I always tell people, experiment! You will learn a lot of tricks by trial and error!

    The guy I buy mine from uses a cheap paint sprayer from Harbor Freight for his larger statues…I may need to look into it. The base coat is not nearly as fun as the rest of the painting. But the sprayer does make a mess so you need a dedicated space that can get a little messy. Great idea for the smaller sizes with the bucket!

    • @concretekeepsakesbytammy7166
      @concretekeepsakesbytammy7166 Před 2 lety

      I use the product CTS rapid set. I don’t have a specific ratio. I simply add water and mix until it’s the consistency I need. I never measure but you can follow instructions on the product if you decide to use it. It sets yo fast so I suggest working with small amounts at a time until you are used to it

  • @airporttransfers5862

    Hi Tammy when you have dipped your statue in black paint do you have a problem with the pin holes you can see

    • @concretekeepsakesbytammy7166
      @concretekeepsakesbytammy7166 Před 2 lety

      Hello…I rarely have pin holes. I use a product called CTS rapid set sold exclusively at Home Depot in USA 🇺🇸 My suggestion is to perfect your mix and also your method by using proper mold release, tipping your molds upside down so no excess release pools prior to pouring and tap them out with a rubber mallet very well along the sides after tapping them to the ground or whatever you are pouring on. Good luck
