    Excellent! I have a question,when turning mine on both sides the bearings sound like they are dropping against one another, have you any idea what this could be? Many thanks 👍

    I accidently pulled out my driveshaft while changing the cv boot. All my ball bearings dropped out of the inner joint. I put them back and greased it up but i'd imagine that shows it is worn? as the balls arent clicking into place?

    Hi - Great video and weel explained. I'm gad I found this. I have a MARS ME126TS which looks excatly the same as this. I have wired as you have but I don't know/understand where to wire the signal cable that comes from the game terminal. I have an x-arcade tankstick and I use one of those buttons to input a coin. If I piggy back onto that will input a coin and work?

    • @seanmcgrath1991
      @seanmcgrath1991 Před 3 lety

      I managed to work it out. There are two wires coming out of the game connection on the credit board. One of them is ground and needs to go to the ground on the microswitch of the button that you use to insert a coin in MAME. You can just piggy back into the back of it. Generally, microswitches have 3 connectors and the ground isn't usually used. It's the top one so connect to this. The other cable coming out of the credit board then goes into the next connector on the same microswitch. If your machine acts weird when you turn it on after installation (i.e it keeps randomly adding coins or your system is acting as if a button is always being pressed) then you have this wire connected to the wrong pin. Swap it over to the other one (not the ground one, leave that one alone) and that'll sort it out.

    This bearing arrangement is similar to the steering tube or swing arms on motorcycles. For removing those, usual method is to place long rod/drift through the open end so it rests against the inside edge of the far side bearing shell. Then tap around the edge, equally around 180 degrees to slowly drift the shell outwards. Another method is to place a large diameter cement anchor bolt, the type that expands with a fixed nut and bolt, into the bearing and expand the anchor so it bites on the bearing. Then from far end, hammer a drift or rod against the inner end of the anchor so it pushes the bearing out.

  • @TornadoCAN99
    @TornadoCAN99 Před 4 lety

    When removing the shaft, does the inner joint just slide out of the drive "cup" without pulling the cup from the differential housing? Is it necessary to drain the oil prior to this work if leaving the cup in place?

    One of my pot joints on a 998 A+ rod/change is missing a ball bearing. I've been driving on it like that for who knows how long. I just realized it was missing when doing the pot joint boot replacement. I'm assuming maybe the previous owners knew about this and decided it was ok to continue driving. Obviously it should have all of it's bearings but if it's missing one, is that bad to drive on?

    • @bluemini17
      @bluemini17 Před 4 lety

      The other bearing balls will be taking more load. I would buy a new pot joint and keep it on the shelf for when it eventually fails. I wouldn't be in a big panic to change it out until if fails. The only damage it will cause is to itself which will be replaced with new.

      @bluemini17 also, zip ties eh? I’ve seen a lot of people use them but it scares me to put one on the inside of a pot joint. Have any issues with zip ties since this video?

    • @bluemini17
      @bluemini17 Před 4 lety

      @@jskeith11 no issues so far. I struggle to get the steel ties to fit on such a tight circumference and remain flat enough to allow the boot to peel over it (not so technical term). Steel ties on the outers diameter all day long and also a light smear of Honda bond

    I have just started my first ever restoration project and have bought a barn find classic mini. I have started to strip everything down and I am now ready to take the engine out but got completely stuck trying to work out how to remove the drive shafts. I knew I had to remove them from the engine but just couldn’t figure out how to as none of the manuals, or other u tube video’s, give a clear indication - they normally seem to entail a quick statement that seems to imply a much greater understanding than I have! . Often the statement goes something like “ just split the inner pot off the diff - but make sure you don’t damage the dif casing as that will be very costly !! “ - No real explanation just a really scary warning and sometimes a reference to a special tool that’s no longer available! They also don’t explain how to get the pots back on again - which is a worry nor do they explain how to withdraw the drive shaft back through the sub frame! Then by chance I came across your channel/video - THANK YOU !! I now realise I don’t need to split the inner pot joint off - just cut the rubber boot off and withdraw the shaft. Great explanation and I will be looking at more of you videos - thanks again!
