    Thank you for choosing to be informative and compassionate about this issue despite the way it can frustrate the hell out of you. Even though it is absurd for people to call themselves Irish despite never having lived there, there are often very strong emotions behind many members of the diaspora clinging to a self-identification as Irish. I won’t lie, I (as an American) called myself Irish until I was in my mid twenties. We often carry Irish names, have been told since childhood by family that we are Irish, and we’ve been told the stories of the struggles our ancestors experienced before, during, and after their leaving of Ireland. This can meld into a mixture of a sense of pride of being descended from people who overcame such adversity, as well as a sense of sad longing for a connection to the culture of our predecessors which, through generations of living in diaspora, has been lost. I’ve developed enough perspective to realize that no, I’m not Irish, I’m an American and to claim otherwise is absurd, but sometimes I still feel that sense of loss and longing to be more connected to the culture of my ancestors. Lately I’ve been trying to ease that by studying the Irish language.

    As you told the story I knew she wanted to destroy this man because of rape. I was a bit surprised that it was for her husband. Men are so rarely acknowledged when this crime happens to them. I believe (don't remember source) that in Scottish history a man had the right (responsibility?) to kill a man who harmed his wife like that. This story shows that it goes both ways.

  • @grannypeacock
    @grannypeacock Před dnem

    Thank you for this video. I've been drawn to the Celtic triple knot my entire life and even have a tattoo of it that predates my pagan path. But when I began journeying the triskelion kept coming up as a symbol of protection. I now have vinyl cutouts at each direction of my home as part of my wards. I don't understand how it's a symbol of protection as every other explanation of the triskelion makes more sense to me than that. But in my journeys that's what it is so for me I'll stick with that

  • @poolguyunfiltered2850

    I like the fact that the Triskelion just seems to be this universal symbol that humans just...make. When it comes to spiritual things, I like to look at lowest common denominators. Things that pop up often and all over feel like that mean more. We might not know what the hell they actually MEAN, but they seem to have a meaning that is speaking to us through the millennia. My personal feeling/representation is the triple goddess. One of my favorite necklaces is this cheap little stainless one I found on Amazon, but it's perfect. It's a series of three crows/ravens flying in a circle bound by a spiral line coming out of each of them. I think it was even labeled as "Viking"...which is a kinda silly. However, it is a nice subtle piece to show The Great Queen my respect, and the triskelion is central to the design.

    The concept of the "three realms" doesn't come from Wicca, though I suppose that they may have adopted that concept in recent years. It comes from medieval Irish texts. See "Irish Perceptions of the Cosmos" by Liam Mac Mathúna, found in Celtica 23 (1999), for example.

    The triskelion was the symbol I was immediately drawn to when I started my pagan journey and have necklace that has a cast iron triskelion that I wear everyday. I’ve always connected it to the triple themes you mentioned and others: the earth, sea, and sky; its connections to the triple nature we see in the goddesses like The Morrigan and Brigid; and the life’s journey of birth, death and rebirth: the immortality of the soul. But I also wear it as a symbol and reminder of my new path as a pagan and dedication to it, my decision to revere and respect the old gods and revere my ancestors.

    Thanks so much for this video. Over six months ago The Morrigan started showing up in my life pushing me to get into examining myself. The neopagan group I was involved in at that time told me she was a bringer of death and a dark and dangerous goddess. She didn't feel that way to me. She seemed straightforward and maybe a bit blunt but nothing of what these other people said. As I got into the stories I couldn't see where they got what they said about her. I wouldn't mess with her or course but she didn't seem dark to me. So your video really made me feel good about what my personal experience was with her. I recently finished your free 5 day The Morrigan Devotional and I loved it. Or maybe Lora put that together, thanks Lora. Love to you both.

I'm so glad I took the leap and learned more about Her and listened to Her call. And I believe She can be dark and difficult, but it's only when She needs you to do that work. That is my experience anyways. But I've always been drawn to "dark" things, and that's open for interpretation. There is light and dark to everyone and everything, there is no one or the other. Balance in all things. And yes, after having learned from all of you, I understand that all Irish deities are as complex and multifaceted as us humans are- both in similar and different ways.
