Seoul's Metro is simply breathtaking, with 337 stations spread out across 816 km of track, working hard every day to move the city's 26 million residents. The metro is fast, frequent and reliable, whilst also arguably having the most character and design of any metro I've ridden in Asia. In this video, I'll explore the Seoul Metro, as well as the city's suburban rail network, before finally showing you a montage of the footage of trains that my friend's captured across the world in the past year. Watch till the end! Enjoy!

    I bet they won't build anything around the airport until 2050 based on what we have seen with development around Sydney Metro Northwest stations. They should have built the developments in conjunction with the metro line and airport to not only fund the projects but also to utilise the infrastructure, rather than the current situation which is leaving the second step to private developers that charge triple the price if the development was built prior to the airport and metro opening.

    I honestly believe high density is a short term fix to kick a population and density problem down the road. You can’t turn the planet into coruscant without creating huge problems later. A better approach is to build more satellite cities in the regions (NOT the suburbs), and encourage industries into the regions with things like tax breaks, etc. In the long term Iis better for the economy, its better for the environment, its better for quality of living.

      Main issue I had when taking the 607X was reliability, it would run, just always late and in peak always full or close to it. Never worth the journey and always a better option to get on the 613X to connect with the Tway at Abbott or the 616X and connect with the Tway at Norbrik

    • @user-oj5ly3ex3d

      Same with the 612X. On TripView, if it’s location is unavailable, then 90% of the time the bus won’t show up, even if it’s scheduled. The service patterns often fluctuate because of trafic as well.

    Military road is bad. Outside of major roads, in Wahroonga, it's anywhere where you need to cross over a train line. There's only a few (single lanes) places you can do it in the area, and with several schools in Wahroonga there's a big gridlock every afternoon that's just as bad as Military Road. Developers keep building apartments but local govt won't widen the bridge over the railway.

      What's your main quibble with the metro. I would make the point that, apart from an improvement in amenity (travel time and increased services) between Bankstown and Epping, and some extra Sydney Trains services, there is no increase in rail coverage until beyond Epping. But I guess that wasn't the goal. They could have probably managed a couple of extra stations too. And seating. But capacity over comfort.

    My biggest gripe with Seoul’s metro is that signage is terrible. On platforms even for Korean speakers such as myself its annoying trying to understand when the next train is as screens keep on cycling between useless tabs such as one indicating times for first and last service. This is even worse on board where screens cycle between ads so often its hard to know which direction you’re going in and where you’re stopping. Plus only screens over every second door on each side display this information! Its so annoying, especially in peak hour when it isn’t always practical to turn around in circles. I wish they’d just have horizontal displays in the space between opposite doors on every train instead of just some models. Tokyo does a much better job at this in my opinion (especially since the overhaul they did in the leadup to the olympics). Line 9 runs express but unfortunately doesn’t have passing loops at every local station. They also have a shortage of staff and trains and many many other problems which really dampen its potential unfortunately. Until now Seoul has taken a page off of Tokyo’s book and mainly used metro like trains on its whole network. Lines like the gyeonggi-jungang line used to be heavy rail and were converted over. This has helped standardize the overall network, but they are now working on the GTX which will work more like an intercity/RER mix. Koreans have been able to pay for their transport fares with simcards and credit cards (and all sorts of trinkets such as rings) for years so there hasn’t really been an incentive update machines. You can also top up via an app but if I remember correctly foreign cards incur a surcharge. You also forgot to mention that Seoul utilises buses A LOT with many commuter bus routes. To help with this many bus lanes have been painted throughout the city with huge bus stops that almost function as a humungous BRT system.

  • @Techno-Universal
    @Techno-Universal Před 3 dny

    It’s like they could modify the scheduling of existing bus routes to make them more frequent instead of having train replacement buses so you can take those buses to another train line! :)

    I love this proposal. Best of luck with this. Hopefully you can pull it off. I love: A) how the route starts at Olympic park which is more centrally located for most Sydney residents than the CBD and connects to the future metro station, stage 2 light rail , TOD and is a similar distance from both airports. Hopefully this will entice the construction of a north-south metro route through Sydney olympic park and improves connection to the "central River city". B) the focus on regional growth. I see this benefiting the southern highlands, Yass region, Canberra, Seymour, and Shepparton in the short-medium term well before the route to Melbourne is complete. C) your point about the ease of getting on and off a train compared to a plane. The "door to door" commute will likely be shorter. D) one last point is that to get to net zero we need to reduce flights. A high speed rail is a pathway for this.
