Epic Snow adventure in our caravan | St Bathans
Hey everyone. This is a pretty epic adventure. Parking up in a Beautiful and remote part of New Zealand, up in the Otago high country, waiting our a winter storm to cover us and everything in Snow.
We so enjoyed our time in the snow, but the conditions we're really cold, the coldest we've experienced with day time highs just a couple of degrees, we had some water come in through the ceiling, and frozen pipes.
We also enjoyed some beers at the local pub while the snow fell, just picture perfect scenes for us.
Hope you enjoy our adventure.

A snow storm is coming - Free camping by the river | Omakau and Ophir
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 4,4KPĆed dnem
Central Otago is a pretty special place, well and truly undeveloped and plenty of old stone houses from the Gold rush days around. We love hanging out in this area, and we're keen to see it again in the roasting summer... Free camping by the Manuherikia river is easily findable on google maps, searching by Omakau. The domain camp ground has lots of facitilites, we found it to be a little expens...

Frozen Dams, Curling and Ice Skating in Otago

Hey everyone welcome to Central Otago, a land of 4 seasons. Hot summers and cold winters. This episode we check out some of the winter highlights in the area. The Frozen Manorburn Dam, Curling and Ice Skating, it doesn't get much more wintery than that right... Although some snow would have really topped it off. I've always been fascinated with Alexandra, often the hottest place in NZ in the su...
Winter camping in remote parts of New Zealand - 4x4 driving to epic places.

Hey everyone. Welcome back. This episode we are exploring in the Ahuriri conservation Park. It's a spot that not to many people visit, there's no infrastructure up here, and it's almost an unspoiled paradise, likely used mostly by 4x4 explorers and hunters. Winter is a pretty harsh time to visit these parts, plenty of ice and snow about despite no snow fall for 2 weeks. #Ahuriri #newzealandwint...

The video even I've been waiting for... New Zealands winter landscape at it's best. In the Mackenzie basin, thick fog and sub zero temps for multiple days in a row in and around Twizel. It's a magical experience to be living amongst the hoar frost and we are grateful that we can tow our caravan into this unique environment and landscape with the knowledge we can leave if we need to. 5 days of s...

Hey Team, an exciting video for you of our trip into Aoraki National park for a winter snow event. We really lucked out on this adventure, from half a day of rain, to snow, to clear blue skies. 5 nights up here in a very cold winter wonderland, that sun came out but didn't provide much heat. Lots of walks, playing with the snow and ice, loved our time up here. #wintersnow #newzealandwinter #mtcook

Hey team, welcome to Tekapo and Twizel 2 quite parts of New Zealand with stunning mountain and lake Scenery. Hey everyone, a very different video for us. Normally we are free camping, DOC camping at an NZMCA or on private property. With Rileys Birthday in a weeks time, we decided we'd head to a commercial camp ground we've not stayed at many in our 2 years on the road, but Riley loves animals, and this place has loads. We also planned to capitalize on Hot showers, Laundry, a powered site, and donkey r...

Hey everyone, I thought while we are still just after this amazing hoar frost we've been a part of over the last week, I'd put up a few of the shots of these incredible winter scenes. Taken around the Mackenzie Basin In New Zealand's South Island. I'm very far behind real time with our regular vlogs, but while this is still fresh in our minds, lets take a look now. #hoarfrost #Twizel #Newzealan...
Camping in a postcard - Winter off grid camping | Ashburton Lakes
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 9KPĆed mÄsĂcem
Hey everyone, welcome to another advenuture. We were up at the Ashburton lakes a year ago in similar conditions. Absolutley incredible place and I had no problems making this video again. This time we ventured out to Lake Heron as well. We had some very moody skies, with the low cloud streaming past the caravan for a day, which was very cool to look at. #lakes #offgrid #greatoutdoors
Battery management in winter | The struggle is real
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 4,1KPĆed mÄsĂcem
Hey team. It's winter in New Zealand and for those travelling, winter causes power shortages, we're all using more power, but get way less sunshine hours, and a lot of you have reached out asking questions about what we're doing about it... I'm defintely a real amatuer when it comes to solar and battery set ups, but this is what we're doing and I hope it offers some help. #powermanagement #gene...

When snow hits here it doesn't leave till spring.. bring on 9k subs!!! Let's goooooooo
Did you have a lot of gates to open and close on the way to Falls Dam?
Did you meet the ghost at the pub?
Itâs great that DOC doesnât charge for staying at this camp at Saint Bathans but gets very busy in the summer. You use to be able to camp by the lake just down from the pub but they put a stop to that a few years ago. Did you stay at the Crows nest in Oturehua? A quirky POP and a nice place to stay for a few days as a base to explore the area. We have friends the own the Oturehua pub.
Is it still owned by the Paape's.
We started using those frozen capsicum! They are awesome!
Our Motorhome is almost fixed so we will be heading south at the end of the month and look forward to wake up in the snow.
I definitely have come back to the South Island to go to St Bathans it looks awesome there
Is that Toby's highest stone drop yet?
Hey mate, I thought you would have shouted your selves a night in Room 1, at the Vulcan. I mean, you never know, Rosie may have visited you. Room 1, was where she conducted her business with the miners, back in the 1800's. And allegedly, if you "sense" her presence, you just say "hey Rosie, I know it's you." And she leaves. Today I was in my veg patch wearing shorts. Just saying. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
I heard the stories of Rosie, gives me goosebumps.... We were in shorts n t shirts today as well... In real time we are in Fiordland.
Good luck for the Ida Valley trip. Looking forward to the video. I think that record low temp was at Ophir (just a few km from Omakau). Thanks for the views of St Bathans and the Falls Dam. Did lots of work up there before I retired. Did you meet the ghost at the Vulcan Hotel? probably not - only comes out at night. (or so I am told!! Lol)
I did not want to meet the Ghost at the Vulcan, thats way to scary, i heard a few stories talking to the managers, Jug turning on and lights turning on, on their on, no thanks... Ranfurly, has New Zealands coldest recorded temp Ophir I believe is the coldest in more recent times of -21, Ranfurly hit -25 in 1904 or something.
@@leopardsgowild Lol. I think the ghost story was just for the tourists.
The old buildings are super cool
My god the kids have grown so much in 4 yrs. They are now little people and not kids. Just watched your latest vid.
I know it will be so interesting to see them in another 4 years aye. They have all grown up so much in size and maturity.
Great Video, I went into St Bathans in spring 2019 , fantastic place, thanks for sharing
Thanks mate, how cool to see it in all it's winter glory aye... had such a great time here.
4am in the morning, snowing and your out there with no shirt on! Thatâs hearty man! Yay for snow!! So excited for you guys đ
ha ha, I was only out there for a little bit, after climbing out of my warm bed, and than back to my warm bed... Was so stoked to see snow on the ground.
Winter time snow snow and more snow
Yes... we love it... So hoping for more snow... Haven't had any since this snow dump...
Another fantastic video showing it how it is â€ïž & reminding us itâs time to head back to the area for a five day weekendđ
such a cool spot, even if you did nothing there but stare at the scenery, you'd still have a great time.
Elephant rocks, film location Nania, Lion Witch and the Wardrobe.
bit of a Gem of a spot that one, had no idea what to expect, they are pretty massive though. I think I had a shot from Narnia in there??? Can't remember too many videos ago, it might have only gone on FB
Hi I like your video
thanks mate, glad your enjoying the videos.
Hi i like your video
thats great mate. thank you.
An adventure down that Gorge would be right up my alley too. Such cool scenery. Definitely on a whole a mild dry winter in the south aye
@@RadRoadAdventures very dry mate I'm not sure what a normal winter down Otago is like but I think it was colder than normal, well the last few years anyway and very dry
65 years ago when I first visited Curio Bay there was a lot more evidence of the petrified trees but sadly over time people broke of bits of rock as souvenirs. Thankfully now the area is protected.
it might be officially protected, but people are free to wonder over the whole site, poking, proding and picking around.

Ah Te Mata Peak - scene of many midnight rendezvous's.
Yea mate, I grew up in Napier, Te Mata peak is an outstanding view point at any time of the day, Foggy valley in the morning, awesome sunsets looking across the plains. Magic spot.
I remember sailing up the lake and mooring at that jetty. Later we transported some hikers across the lake.
what a cool place to sail... We really like this area, loved it when we returned in June this year.

Yeah it's been a few years since we've had a decent dumb of snow on the mountains around us.. normally the mountains are a blue green with ice and snow , even had a light dusting in early oct in 22.. might be something to climate change after all.â€ïžđłđż
Where abouts are you based? I love seeing the mountains covered in snow, adds such a magnificent colour palette to the landscape.

it's such a unique area. I wonder how it was 500 years or 1000 years ago, especially regarding glacier and long last snow. Those valleys are so shallow, but it holds the cold in winter.
