Creating an Armature

During this workshop at Martin Fine Art Classes, we transformed a drawing into a sculpture. Starting with the drawing, you create a wire frame. Then, wrap the frame with paper and aluminum foil. Next, apply clay to shape the sculpture, followed by a layer of gesso to seal the clay, and finish with acrylic paint to bring your vision to life. Each sculpture reflects your unique artistic vision.
Creating Puppy's Ears

In this video, I will create the puppy's ear in clay that will be attached to the clay that I brush water on to help with the bond. "Slip" will be made, which is wet clay I will brush in the location where I want the ear to be placed.

In this video, the next step is adding clay to the armature which started with aluminum wire, wrapped with newspaper, and secured with masking tape. Wet fingers and small amounts of clay are placed over the newspaper and smoothed with different brushes and tools.

In this video, I demonstrate one technique for creating an armature using 16-gauge aluminum wire to support a clay sculpture, using a stuffed animal as a model. We use the model as a guide, not necessarily to create an exact replica.
Creating Baby Garibaldi Wax sculptures

Wax sculptures is the second step in creating a bronze sculpture. The lost wax processes is creating a ceramic shell around the wax by layers of Slurry (similar to watery cement) then dripped in sand. Starting with fine sand, then cement and continuing the steps until a hard shell is created. “Burn-out” the wax, a hollow shell is formed, this is where one pours molten bronze into the mold. Once...
