🌊 In today’s tutorial we’ll paint a beach scene in 2 ways: one with watercolor and masking fluid, and one with watercolor and white wax crayon, plus a bit of gouache.
For all of you who have tried masking fluid and ran into problems I’m sharing my top 6 tips for masking fluid and hope you’ll give it another chance ☺️
I’m listing all materials in the video, but here they are again, with links where applicable:
- Moleskine watercolor sketchbook 200gsm with 25% cotton, and square drawing sketchbook
- Khadi 100% cotton handmade square sketchbook
- Masking fluid by Schmincke, Winsor & Newton and Pebeo
- Schimoni Arts round brush 5, and Boesner Germany quill brush size 8
- Watercolors: Alohawatercolors in Beach 2 (yellow ocher), Payne’s Gray (custom mix Prussian blue mixed with different black ochers), Moana (Prussian blue), Matcha (custom mix of chromium oxide green and titanium white) 👉 www.alohawatercolors.com (New set dropping Sunday, August 18)
- Pik-up cement rubber eraser
- Crayola white wax crayon, Caran d’ache Neocolor 1 white
- White gouache (possibly M.Graham but could also have been Schmincke. I’m not loyal to a particular gouache brand and just what I found on my palette)

The paint looks so gorgeous when and fresh! Totally not what I expected!
It can really be surprising! Especially the matte paints can look completely different when fresh or dry.
I like the colour. You definitely get an arm workout mulling paint and the end product is worth it.
Haha yes! I try to mull with both arms to give them both a workout 😉

Der Sailor Fude De Mannen verstopft nicht, wenn man wasserfeste Tinte einfüllt? Mega auch die Info zu den Ecoline Brushpens - hab welche, aber wusste weder, dass man die Spitze umdrehen kann, noch, dass man sie wieder befüllen kann... Danke für die vielen, wertvollen Infos!
Gute Frage! Die meisten gehen nicht und verstopfen den Füller. Es gibt aber wasserfeste Tinten von Rohrer & Klingner, die funktionieren super. Haben lustige Namen so wie Thea und Emma. Füller sollte man aber öfters reinigen, 1x im Monat. Auch super ist die Platinum Carbon Tinte.
