@josiah7013 Hey Josiah, I try to do a lot of the clip selection in the evenings on my phone. When I get to an area with good cell service, I try to finish up - it takes me a full day to tidy it all up and upload.

I'm enjoying following you on your journey. What kind of bike are you riding? My mountain bike is about 35 pounds. I've been experimenting with packing, and I just can't seem to get it under 80 lbs...without food or water.
I had to bail a few days after meeting Kev. It's really hard but you need to try to get your weight down it'll make the ride easier for you and cut down on Parts breaking on your bike like your rear pannier rack Bolts like mine did. I'm down to fifty not including H2O and food. That's likely about the best you can do w/o cutting into what you need to keep the bike going. I was at 100lbs going into a 4-5 day stretch in N.M. and had a real struggle and broke bolts. Start by taking off your rear panniers and just go from there. Good luck.
@@markdobbins007 thanks for the input. I wrote Kevin and asked him how much his rig weighed. He told me that the bike and all his gear weighed 55 pounds without food or water.

@evanlouis8853 yes, that's correct. We don't include water or food in that calculation as those items vary constantly. Anything under 60lbs is considered a reasonable compromise.
Hey Kevin. I just found your channel and I subscribed. A couple of questions if you will please. I want to do The GDMBR I am a big man such as yourself. Not to mention that I am 67 years old. I have severe sleep apnea. I have to figure a way to bring my CPAP machine as well as a battery to run it. My question to you is… Do you suffer from sleep apnea as a larger person. Also… Do you know how much your rig weighs fully loaded? Thank you and the best of luck.
@evanlouis8853 HI Evan. Apnea is a tricky one. The simple answer is a portable machine like the Z1 by HDM and a large battery such as the Krisdonia 55,000mah lithium. With that battery, you can go for about 3 nights before recharging. Another battery option is to use a pack of lithium AA batteries every night. Each set of AA's will cost $15, you'll use one set per night, and you'll have to carry all those sets of batteries with you. That's the simple part. The tricky part is charging the battery. You can't really do a solar panel because you can't sit around all day waiting for the Krisdonia to charge. A dynamo hub won't even begin to put a charge on a battery that size. A pedal cell would do the job, but only if you're pedaling 8 hour days every day - not to mention that the pedal cell is no longer available. So your only practical option is to stop at a hotel every 2nd or 3rd day to charge the battery. That option is only realistic if you're moving along fast enough to get to a town with hotels often enough. Here's what I would try first before departing: use AA rechargeable lithium (like Blue batteries). Have say 4 sets - the Z1 needs 10 batteries, so 40 batteries. That's 4 days worth, then charge them all at a hotel on the 5th day. You'll have to experiment to make sure your system works. The big question will be whether one set of batteries will last one full night. You'll also need to be prepared to solder up your own connections. I have apnea but lost enough weight before my trip that I don't need the machine anymore. My rig hovers around the 55lb mark - I'll be doing a gear review soon, so watch for that. If you bring a cpap, you'll add about 5lb to your gear weight - quite doable. I want to point out that as much type 2 fun as the GDMBR is, it is also incredibly difficult. Your mental game must be tough as nails. I've seen 75 year-olds do it, so age isn't a barrier. You can do this :-)

@willmarcoux4426 Hey Will, yes, all of the music is of my own original compositions. When I'm playing the American Indian flute, it's all improvisation. There isn't really music written for the American Indian Flute, so it's all original, and when I'm playing, particularly in nature, I just play what my heart feels. :-)

Will was not questioning the use of the music he was just wondering if they were my original compositions as he is aware of my music composition efforts. I am currently studying for a PhD in classical composition.

One of the many things that I learned from you, and maybe the most important thing I learned, was the importance of not panicking during any situation that could kill me. Keep calm, think it through, and continue to try to find a solution. You helped me to become the man I am today. My mistakes before I met you, never afforded me an opportunity to learn, nor affect me as much as my mistakes when I lived in Hawaii. And I would do anything to take it back. You saved my life, and I unintentionally disrespected you, and it still hurts my heart. I wish I could be on this adventure with you. But the abuse my body has been through, has definitely caught up with me. 51, but my body feels like it's 75. I love you brother, and I'm very proud that you are still pushing forward with this difficult journey.
Your camaraderie would bring much joy to this ride - I wish you were here as well. 😊
Doing the ride is merely part of the adventure. It's easy to get into a monotonous rhythm of peddling, and forget to really see the world around you, because you can become a bit tunnel visioned, because you are so determined to get to the next camp. I made many stops through Nebraska. "Don't go to the hiway cow. They'll eat you"!!! I was happy to see the video, as for me, it only just post a couple hours ago. Was that a hint at diving? "The world beneath......me." lol 😆 🤣

After 2 knee replacements, I will be starting where I left off 2 years ago SoBo from Missoula MT (alternate/relatives) to finish the ride at the Mexican border. Best of luck on the rest of your trip. Thank you for the kind words . I'm riding a Specialized StumpJumper hardtail that weighs approximately 55 lb. With gear. I'm struggling to find the right compromises with food and water as those can get pretty heavy on some of the longer stretches.
I wish I had known about some of these things. Because I too experienced some of these problems. I have titanium steaks, because they are strong, and very light. I have a tri fuel stove.
Titanium Stakes are great Shawnn, nice to hear from you, I have a set of titanium as well they just didn't hold as well as I wanted them to though I suspect it was because the ground was so soft up in volcano.
Thank you for your lessons learned! When I will “do” the GDMBR, I’ll be preparing for about two years too. Next year July I am Planning to start going southbound. Bikepacking is complete new for me. New bike, new gear BIG plan. But I can do it. I have much experience in bicycle trips for the last 50 years. On a racing bike and mainly on a recumbent. This time it is new.
