There's a video on youtube of a guy setting up a large campsite tarp 16x20 to cover the tent and table. The ridge line rope is attached to trees at 10foot height but the rope sags in the middle some what. So he found some tipi poles that are in 2 five foot segments with a metal connector to prop under the rope. Works really well but they're not made any more. This looks like a good solution to make my own but I just need them a little taller I think.
Hey, I know this is almost 4 yrs later, but THANKS FOR THIS SUPER EASY AND CHEAP IDEA! You're the best. I have one particular tent, an older one that I happen to love. Got it from another person who took excellent care of it. It's a Coleman 2 room tent, made before Coleman sold the company. I use that tent when I want to do comfortable camping with the family and when not out hiking, but relaxing. It's mint condition and it has an awning. Well, the tip of one of those tarp type poles snapped off. I didn't want to deal with an odd aluminum pole to replace it. I like this idea. I think I'll put duct tape around the exposed part of the tip of the screw, too, so my guy lines won't get cut into, used to stabilize each of them. Now that I think about it, I can just make a matching set of these for my awning/tarp "porch" of my tent and paint them in a cool design and then protect it with that clear other stuff on top of it. I only need mine to be maybe 6 ft tall each, and lean one slightly lower so rain runs off of that edge. You're the best. I'm glad you took the time to make this video. Loved the accent, too!
Great idea! I can buy metal ones; but I will not get them in the adjustable sizes that I want? I will wind up drilling them out anyways! Instead of just gluing them together at a set length only at one end I will just put a bolt & nut through holes pre drilled every so often on the hollow female PVC and then on the other male side of the pole so I can adjust them! Thank you!
You did have a power tool!!! Drill all the pilot holes first, then bit driver attachment for the screws.

Cheap metal extension poles for paint rollers. Some are about $10 and they twist lock. I have seen them used at yard sales to hold up a tarp too.
