When I wuz a wee lad I went over to our neighbor's house who had television. I saw this news report that always effected me. It said "Blah blah blah, if the president knew about it, he'd stop it in a minute. MY seven year old self wondered "doesn't the Prez have a TV or some shit?" Now I'm like "doesn't the Prez have 4chan 'n shit?"
Dead hard to play this.
Foundation Skateboards
Kinda gives everyone a piece to music a bit.
Every part in a way yes
Pf flyers .....and a fan ....music fits just right

agree with all the below. I saw them in Leeds at the start. Always so tight -and even more so in this clip
The space between the notes is just as important as are the notes being played. What a performance!

Never to be equaled
One of the most unique and brilliant bands in rock history. I was lucky enough to see them live up in Chicago in about 1980.
Slap it UP 🎉🎉
G of4 Solid Gold tour was my 1st gig as a baby faced 17 yo. The Warehouse in Liverpool and shitting myself that I wouldn't get in for being under age. I did and have never forgot it.
No mention so far of Dave Allen on bass - vital to the early Gang of 4 sound and storming it on this.
Favorite iteration of the band.
I alwasy got Pop Group vibes from GOF. i love this band so much.
Good stuff right here
Classic song. Brings back memories of Urggghh a Music War

Masterpiece of 20th century music.
Now try writing a song which means something to people.
This is killer and I am going to buy it. But I just want to say, I love Songs of the Free (1982). It's more New Wave than Post-Punk, but is still experimental and singular Gang of Four. I suppose it's more sentimental for me as I grew up hearing I Love a Man In Uniform on the radio.
Yes, I love new wave
Absolutely brilliant!
They are so good and special an Full of Power. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are influenced by them.
Brilliant stuff...their music was always intense...RIP Andy Gill.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time!
It truly just has a great sound and vibe
Needs to be taught in school
What a great, great band.
ELLOS SON LO MEJOR!!! JAJAJAJA
It's like hearing Fugazi years before
AMAZING.
Jon King should stay off the percussion and do what he did best, sing.
Hahaha. Yeah hahaha the beat on the four is a little unusual. That kind of thing typically does tend to go over the heads of the standard two digit... But that's what makes the song.
As opposed to the utter shit that is 21st century music
At the beginning the “smack” of the metal is on “4” (as in 1, 2, 3, 4). Counting it in this way from the start is how to decipher this rhythm. Also, that drum kit, with the 20” kick drum? Sounds awesome. Saw Hugo place that kit at Perkins Palace in LA, 1982. What an astounding show. REM opened.
The 4 (or the 1) gets displaced during the reenty at 3:20. Could be a video edit maybe? That 4 takes a lot of concentration.
@astolennova Your right. Dude screws it up. But Hugo is still in time. That shows what a great drummer he is.
One of my all-time favorite bands! Great video - thanks for posting. The one thing that was a bit of a revelation to me watching after all these years was just how terrific and dynamic Dave Allen was on bass. I always appreciated his work with Shriekback (his bass line was the spine after all) but he's so much more out front and part of the mix in this one. Jon and Andy were always so riveting on stage I often overlooked Dave - this made him stand out more. And of course Hugo always always drove it home. Brilliant
Finding out that Jimmy Douglas was their engineer makes so much since why him and Timbaland did so well sonically
He didn't appear to like them much though. Andy Gill said that at their first meeting in the studio the band played Paralysed/What we all Want/Cheeseburger and something I can't remember off what became Solid Gold and Douglas reportedly commented that all their songs sounded the same.
When they were performing this song in China 2019 they used a freaking pole to hit the microwave oven
Indeed.
This is genius in it's representation and delivery.Andy Gill was and is,after Jake burns one the finest guitarist of that time.
what is he hitting and what is he hitting it with?
So dub. So good.
This has been a favourite of mine since it came out
Podem falar o que quiser, mas esse guitarrista e dos infernos, literalmente ispiraçao.

This was like Radiohead for 1980-81 . LOL . THIS WAS CUTTING EDGE back then.
