2024 SCCA Lincoln Solo National Championships—Kevin Wenzel AS#72 C6 Z06
I wasn't the fastest on either day, but ended up taking the AS class win by .068, and 31st overall out of over 1200 drivers for the event.
West course: 3rd run, made a couple of mistakes (most notably I double-steered the entrance to the tight left after the showcase turn and was off the apex there) that cost a couple tenths, but overall pretty good.
East course: 2nd run, also had a couple of issues but was just enough to get the top spot (didn't improve on my 3rd run).

Somehow this run was scored as a DNF, which...doesn't seem to be true. But it's OK, since I definitely hit the final finish cone on the right. Woulda-coulda-shoulda been 1st in PST with the run and 3rd overall.

Summer Nats was a struggle for me up until the 2nd day of the Tour-not sure if it was the heat or just a case of getting mentally wedged in the wrong direction (overthinking is a specialty of mine), but that all cleared up for me Sunday. 1st overall on index for the day, and went from 2nd place to 1st in AS by 0.529.

1st place in PST and 2nd overall on this challenging course. Still working on the car's balance with a new setup, but it worked pretty well albeit with the usual zMAX understeer. Trying to work on earlier/more throttle application and still struggled with that on this run, and also had a few significant mistakes from pure sloppiness.

Top index time, almost top raw (missed it by .003 to an EVX car). After a disastrous Spring Nats this event was what I needed-car felt great with a setup change, I felt great after finally (mostly) recovering from a 2-week long cold. The Jeff Cox course was very, very good.

Although this run gave me a solid lead and 10th overall on index for the day, I didn't execute like I wanted to-I was targeting a time in the high 50s and made quite a few errors that kept me from achieving that (didn't get the spiral into the first turnaround right and coasted slightly at the 0:16 mark, bobble coming out of the LH turnaround when I should have unwound the steering more, big bo...

Top pax for Saturday and a solid lead in AS! Really fun course and surface, can't wait for the next tour at Moultrie. Ultimately fell back to second on index overall by a few thousandths after being a bit off my game Sunday, but very happy with my first National event of the year.

2, coned away the PST win with this run. The car's limits were higher than mine, it felt very balanced (for zMAX-so still slightly tight) and I had trouble getting to that limit on the first couple of runs. Besides the cones (which I think were in the first slalom) I'm not happy with my entry to the RH turnaround after the slalom-set up too wide, and did a poor job blending braking with turn-in...

The car seems happy with a BridgeHama mullet and was working well at this TnT. Still have things to work on but much further ahead than I was last year at this time.

Fun event in the wet, turns out my low-grip-site (i.e., not zMAX) shock settings work great in the wet at zMAX. This run was 1st overall (and in PST) although the overall position didn't last since the afternoon heat was dry.

This event started out well for me, first run was a 42.2 1, which was a good starting raw time (and if clean, probably would have been top index if the event were a three-run tour). I came into this event with some confidence, building on the ProSolo Super Challenge win the previous weekend, but ultimately finished 2nd behind Dan Simms, who drove his ass off and earned his first jacket! Pushed hard on this run after cutting a slow (for me) .6xx light, and thought I tagged the exit cone on the last corner (looked in the mirrors to see it still standing). First super challenge win for me since the 2013 Finale, 10 years ago!
