I live full time in a converted vauxhall combo and mine is fully insulated and toasty in winter, my van does not look like someone lives in it no solar on the roof, i work and stay in the works car park Monday to Friday and stay at a caravan park over the weekend so i can get a shower and wash my clothes etc, but ill never buy a bigger van and im 5 11 tall Lol
hi just watched your video from 7 years ago talbot 1989 virtualy same spot great i have just bought a 1993 symphony petrol 1.9
Its been a journey! They are great vans. I hope you enjoy yours.
Good to see you back glad your well
Thank you. It's good to be back.
love the van, they were well made and thought out with a few modern mods should make a great van ,what should you look for in purchasing one and how many mpg ,is it swb mwb which makes parking ideal you got one thing id like power steering which aint a common thing on the petrol ones think all the diesel have power steering just subscribed be interesting to see what you do with the van upgrade wise not too much so not great expense you sure get your moneys worth with the talbots ,not stupid money like most and not built like that a tidy little van cheers sam
Thanks Sam. They are more like a medium wheelbase but they fit in normal car spaces just. Yes the power steering is a great difference compared to not having it in these vans. I've only got 2 more mods to do, diesel heater and a Lifepo4 battery going in this week. You need to look out for rust on these vans, normally the inner wings and the shuttle panel but these are available new. After some servicing and tweaking I can get 30mpg on a run on the petrol vans.
@@VanOnTour thanks for reply ,i aint having any luck with modern vans ,not reliable and expensive to mend as computer controlled ,the older vehicle easier to work on so cheaper and your mpg is impressive ,the modern van wont live as long as your talbot that i can guarantee so thats why im looking for a older van and they are well thought out got everything you need a wise choice and i see you've owned one before so they cant be that bad 😁
@samfletcher222 I've owned 3 now. Every breakdown I've had I've been able to repair at the side of the road with a few basic tools except for one time when my gear linkage snapped. They are so easy to get up and running again.
@@VanOnTour that’s brill you’ve no idea with modern one all electronics a right pain the hard bit is finding a good un but I’m not in a rush one will turn up
Nice to have you back mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Hi Guys, love the new van, a good size and loads of potential. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks Dave. It's a work in progress!
I had one of these and did a tour of Europe. Just a word of caution: the air intake on the side needs a shroud as the wind can blow out the flame.
It has a shroud. They're great vans!
@@VanOnTour Yeah that isn't enough.
Nice Campervan, great order for it's age. My Talbot Express (93) is similar but different layout, I'm around 5 ft 10 and have to lye down from corner to corner (partially unto the front seat) to sleep with the bed set up like that. I've always wondered if my van was narrower. I'd have preferred a petrol engine tbh, I've a big bill coming, new head, glow plugs, water pump and Timing belt being fitted; the old head did the gasket in because it had a crack in it apparently. New sills and other work cost me a small fortune three years ago. I've had it almost six years and have so much invested in it that I will probably keep it until it craps out...at least it's still on the road I guess and still much cheaper than anything newer. Good to see you two uploading again :)
They are great vans aren't they. I do prefer the petrol engines though. Ours is tax and MOT exempt in 8 years so I intend to keep her going.
@@VanOnTour Yes, great vans indeed, I can't see many new vans today lasting so long. They have great layouts for such small vans, everything is there that's needed.
Great to see you back, i only thaught last week its been sooo long scince i saw any vids of you! Hopefully more to come 👍
More to come! Thank you.
Nice job 👏
Hey can you advise where you fed the positive cable from the main battery to leisure bat? can’t see an obvious route and want to avoid drilling. Awesome conversion btw
I used conduit and ran it down from the battery to the back of the engine then diagonally across to the leisure battery.
That is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Absolutely love it, camping in style ❤
Wow, thank you!
To unreliable do not buy one go electric. worked one time only.
No error coad.
I've fitted over 30 of them and not had any serious problems.
Do you live in that?
Filtre gazole HS !!!
You saved me so much time! Had the same issue. I wish they woukd actually qc these before sending them to the stores
I am impressed with crusader kit, very good except with the cover it came in drw strig was not seacre on one side. Recently go crusder 2, the stove is a bit taller so can acomodate a trangia burner. Hexamine tablets are better than fire dragon tabletz as they dont last long. But fire dragoni liquid fine i n a trangia type burner. There is always the flat hined stove, they are good too.
Hose from pump to heater make it short as possible
It is and that is not the problem here.
@@VanOnTour When I got first time 08, Checked and cleaned the hoses, changed the pump, the 08 still came. Then took apart the heater and cleaned for soot, 08 still came. Then cleaned the exhaust pipe for soot, 08 still came, Worked for a while then 08 still came. Then took apart again to clean for soot, Thought that was clogged again from soot pipe, From this point hr started to work 5 minutes blowing cold air and coming with 03. I quit. Bought a new one. And again with a new one 08 comes again. Some CZcamsr advised to make the hose short, from pump to heater. Mine was for about 8 inch, also pushing diesel with bubbles. Made it for about 3-4 inch, Some bubbles still a coming, But heater finally works. You gonna say it was about the clamps, Some air came thru pump... Right now the hoses to pump and from pump to heater are without clamps. On the old one hoses where tided with clamps.p
Come back soon please 😊
I'm back!
Beautiful ❤️
Brilliant.. love it ❤️
Thank you.
Mine has different type cap just a hole and isn’t blocked , been a nightmare freezing weather minus 6 and turned heater up to 4 next thing stinks of burning smell and more smoke than ever before, pump still ticks but seems to have no strength pumps but full of air just can’t seem to get the air out undone the pipes tried bleeding and everything still no joy I think pump is partially blocked as quantity of diesel recently second hand cheap stuff can the pumps do this ? Anyone just not pumping round in quantity seems to air lock then gives up , even with it disconnected from the heater pitiful just not squirting
Change the pump. It's faulty.
My heater doesn't go into prime mode when i press ok and down ?
Mine had blown out on startup in a gale.
Awesome build
Really impressed with what you’ve achieved. I’ve owned my Expert for 12 years but chose an ex-wheelchair converted Citroen Dispatch, to convert. as it’s all glass, to sides and rear, so less claustrophobic, plus it comes already trimmed with a proper headliner, which suits me. - the dropped floor is boarded over leaving great storage underneath. Loved the way you presented this - dead relaxed and so helpful. Wonder if you still have it?
Thank you. Yes I still have it and it's still going strong. 55K miles since owning it and not one breakdown.
@@VanOnTour Brilliant. Non turbo power, wind up windows. What’s there to go wrong? Here’s to the next 55. Cheers.
Gracias!!!! Nos has salvado !!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks, looks like my replacement diesel cap didn't have an escape hole, its working like a dream. You're a champion!!!
Glad it helped!
Just about to buy the exact same model of van, given me a lot of ideas, thanks very much! Really great build! 🙏🏻
Thank you and good luck with your build.
I think that this test is flawed due to the fact that you added 10% water to the meths. That will make it burn cooler and therefore last longer.
Any chance you can show me how you do the bed to a double. Think I have bits missing
hello old lad iv got a van the same as you got so im am making a campervan just like you did so i can just sod off some were on my dady off work i atch you all the time from little sumpy
Thanks for the video. My heater did that twice. We have very high winds here last night and this morning. It starts but sometimes shuts off with that code. I can start it but I did notice before that, that the fuel filter looks dirty. I may just change that and check for sludge in the tank as well. Do you think that may help also.? I never would have thought about the wind. That may very well be the problem. That van is still rocking as I write this.
The wind can do that. Park so the wind is not blowing into the exhaust.
Hello, I'm french and I have a question : Where do you find thé double gaz to cooking? I like this.
Thanks for that, just got me out of trouble!
Glad it helped!
Very helpful, thank you! Resolved my error code also
Ah good to hear. Glad it helped.
is the metal cup able to be put on open fire coals?
Yes it is. Its steel. On the mk2 it is anodised aluminium.
@@wildernesslifecraft8180 Thank you
'is it wrong that i actually ikie that smell' :) I had to suck syphon mine twice recently, i liked the taste! Accidentally swalloed a bit, not pleasant to be burping diesel all day! I've only recently installed it for my shed, i now have the dreaded E-10 error to diagnose.
E-10 is normally power. Shorten the red positive lead to only what you need as it is too thin and causes voltage drop.
@@VanOnTour Thanks, fixed it eventually by raising voltage on the transformer. Great little heaters.
Like this idea and I already have that stand!
I had E8 issues that were driving me mad. Ended up tearing apart the heater and found the combustion chamber coked up beyond belief. Cleaned it up and put it back together; runs better than new now..
Run it at full blast for 15 minutes now and then. It helps keep the chamber clean.
@@VanOnTour aye. I think my kerosene had condensation in it. No idea how old it was.
I tried to lower the temperature to 0.9 hz, but after a while I get error 08. Is it because it is set too far below the minimum?
Does it work if you raise the temp setting?
You have to adjust the min and max fan speeds too, if it runs too cool and errors reduce the maximum fan speed in increments until it runs hot and reliable.

Thanks so much you save a senior disabled woman from a very cold canadian winter night. With your video I was able to restart my heater in less then 15 minutes and is toasty now in my campervan 😀 angels bless you John
I'm so glad it helped you.
Same here. I'm also a disabled senior. My heater starts, but sometimes shuts off. The winds are super high here since last night. When I get out of the van I'm going to turn it back on high for a bit. I also think I may have a dirty fuel filter.
@@TerriLynch park you van in a way that the wind cannot blow up your heater exhaust at all. Strong winds in the right direction will extinguish the heater when it blows up the exhaust.
Thank you
Is it dangerous to burn the methylated spirits in a bio ethanol indoor fire or are they the same thing?
I think the meths gives off some fumes
It's dangerous with any flame really and ventilation is a must but bio ethanol burns very clean with little carbon monoxide. I always crack the vent and a door when cooking in the van.
Your heater muffler is on the wrong way, the weep hole should face downward to let out built up moisture!
There are no drain holes. It's symmetrical. You drill a small hole in the lowest point of the exhaust as a drain hole.
@@VanOnTour the one I received has a drain hole on one side!
@@tonyl1483 that must be a fairly new thing then as I've fitted many and there was no drain hole.
@@VanOnTour I purchased the diesel heater 3 years ago!
Dude !!! Thank You for your video! Saved me a headache of having to pull it apart and return it! Fixed our problem!
Glad it helped!
Did you get up to Scotland manage to catch any parts of your journey ?
Not yet. Planning on spring next year.
Hope you are still fit and well and getting out and about in van life matey.
Yes still out and about. Not long spent 10 days at Stonehenge.
what an awesome fix! you fixed my problem! Thank you for posting this! :)
You're welcome. I'm glad it's still helping people.
This is a dicked the nipple he describes is a one way valve which is there to keep the deisel in the tank and to let the air in. Cutting a hole in will let the deisel slosh out of the tank
And if it's faulty and doesn't pass either through as so many are?
